 Re: May 29-31 Predictions
Aloha reminds me so much of How Do You Know: blinding star power, no pulse.

 Re: May 29-31 Predictions
San Andreas-40m (The Rock has a fanbase, plus goodwill from F7 and Tomorrowland isnt going to breakout so this is the only other option for action type movie that GA can see until Jurassic Park hits. Aloha-13.5m (no real buzz but it has recognizable stars, I see this as a walk-up type film. Its going to appeal to the over 30 crowd.)

San Andreas - 35 Aloha - 18
Starpower alone should propel Aloha to a decent opening. At least I would think. We'll see. It could certainly be How Do You Know 2.0. It really will be inexcusable if Cameron Crowe and Sony actually manage to make a romantic comedy with Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone and Rachel McAdams not a success.

The buzz on Aloha is absolutely toxic...they better try and pack them in opening weekend.

 Re: May 29-31 Predictions
San Andreas $29m
It'll probably perform just like Hercules did. The Rock isn't a draw, and this has had a muted marketing effort.
Aloha $13m

 Re: May 29-31 Predictions
Around $35 million sounds just about right for San Andreas. Crazy thing is that this same film would have opened to $60+ million a decade ago.

 Re: May 29-31 Predictions
The same film DID open with $60m a decade ago. Well, $68m to be precise. And then again in 2009 with $65m. I feel like I've been watching and re-watching rereleases of the same damn movie.

San Andreas 35m Aloha 15m
I doubt Aloha will open to single digits but its legs will get cut short by Spy.

Mid 30s seems doable for San Andreas. May drop hard after but it should open well enough. Nah I think Rock works better with certain movies like sequels, supporting roles, and sword sandals(SCorpion King, Hercules,Mummy REturns). Not disaster films. Under 30 million

 Re: May 29-31 Predictions
San Andreas seems a big hit to me. And it transcends Dwayne Johnson. I just believe Warner Bros. has run a strong, 2012-style campaign. The whole classic, "Where will you be? Who will you be with? The end is near!" disaster-movie angle.

My colleague's first sentence when the credits rolled at the press screening: "1997 called and wants its summer blockbuster back".

 Re: May 29-31 Predictions
Perfect time then for this film to capitalize on nostalgia for the Emmerich/Devlin-style blockbuster.

 Re: May 29-31 Predictions
San Andreas - 34.884 Million Aloha - 14.1 MillionIt's crazy. Aloha should have been able to open above 20 Million but there doesn't seem to be much buzz at all. Maybe it still could though. Bradley Cooper couldn't be hotter right now and then it has a bunch of other names. Not to mention the trailer seems to be shown with every single movie so I imagine people are aware of it . But I hear nobody talking about it. And the Facebook page has just under 36,000 likes, which is terrible. That's not much more than The D Train had the week before opening.

 Re: May 29-31 Predictions
I really hope San Andreas doesn't go below mid 30's next weekend. The advertising is solid and with Tomorrowland/Mad Max not exactly posting spectacular numbers, and Avengers fading the market should be wide open for this to put up some decent numbers. I could even see it reaching $40M, but either way it needs as BIG of opening as it can get before Jurassic World comes out and absolutely creams it.

San Andreas is made for OS audience and I don't think domestically people will care enough for it to have a bigger opening than say MM:FF
San Andreas - $29m Aloha - $11m

 Re: May 29-31 Predictions
San Andreas looks perfectly suited for that $30-40 million opening range. Anything above $40 million, I'd consider great for it. Aloha will only open above $10 million thanks to Stone and Cooper being pretty damn big right now.
