 Child 44 predictions - April 17  Child 44 is an upcoming American drama thriller film directed by Daniel Espinosa, written by Richard Price, and based on Tom Rob Smith's novel Child 44 (2008). The film stars Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, and Vincent Cassel. It opens on a crowded weekend with Monkey Kingdom, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, and Unfriended. No real draws. Re: Child 44 predictions - April 17 The tile is generic but it could be a solid film. Regardless of quality, looks like an April dumpee.
The competition is strong too - Unfriended looks like a breakout ($20m+) and Paul Blart should still be good for about $20m OW even if it gets nowhere near the final gross of the first.

Re: Child 44 predictions - April 17 Around 40 million is the highest I could see it going. Or much lower because it almost reminds me of a film such as Dead Man Down. A strong cast, but no huge name, and a gloomy plot with no immediate easy-sell angle.

Re: Child 44 predictions - April 17 I don't think this will do well. Interestingly this is the second pairing for Hardy and Rapace the first being The Drop which also didn't do gangbusters. That one had James Gandolfini and this one has Gary Oldman ofcourse the later has a bigger draw among the two but not by too much.

Re: Child 44 predictions - April 17 This is definitely going to perform poorly at the box office. Audiences will not go for it: the grisly plot, the Russian accents, the dour and wintry vibe in general, etc.

Why would you greenlight a project about Russian people in post-WW2 and have them talk English with Russian accents?
Just cast Russian people. Have them speak Russian. Or have Hardy and Oldman speak Russian. I'd watch that.
This just looks like a bit of a joke. The accents are horrible. I mean, it's not like I can tell for sure, but Hardy has used this "foreign" accent before which makes it more of a farce than an actual attempt.
