Where Will SW Ep. 7 Land On The All Time Adjusted Chart?
Where do you see SW Ep. 7 landing on the all time adjusted chart? I'm currently at #8. I think it will pass $1 B but may not get to $1.068 B to pass Jaws.

I'm rooting for a billion. That number is just even now it's unfathomable. Ungodly. Unreal.
I think though it may end up around Exorcist.

I would wait for 8th Jan to see where it is going. I am not 100% sure it will get to $1b but an all time Top 10 should be guaranteed.

even taking into account repeat viewings and Candian tickets, I would assume unique customers in America would still be close to 64 million, which would mean 20% of the American population will have seen the movie in theaters.
in today's where monoculture is dying, that is remarkable. Yeah, the fact that it's blowing past all the other sequels/prequels in admissions is the most impressive thing. That and trouncing Avatar by such a wide margin w/o as much of a 3D boost.

#9 with around 950-960m $ ( I can't believe we are even having this thread. This is such a incredible result for TFA )

Re: Where Will SW Ep. 7 Land On The All Time Adjusted Chart?
I think it won't hold that well after holidays.
It will have to make 255M+ to reach 1 billion.

Re: Where Will SW Ep. 7 Land On The All Time Adjusted Chart?
Assuming a 4th weekend in the high 40's (with a 45%+ drop from a 90M+ weekend), it will be not much above 800M and would need a 5x multiplier to get the billion. This weekend falling many millions under the 100M mark likely locked a position under #8.

It will have to make 255M+ to reach 1 billion. Let's say $90 million this weekend, which puts it at $742 million by the end of the weekend. If it made $34.5 million on Saturday and drops around 40% on Sunday, it will have a $20.7 million Sunday. Looking back at 2010, it should have a Monday drop no worse than 60% to $8.3 million. Even in the worst case, following Sherlock Hoömes' drops, it should make $28 million Mon-Thu for a $770 million after 21 days. Let's assume the worst and say it drops 50% on its fourth weekend. Considerig its only competiition are an R-rated survival drama and a horror movie, I strongly doubt that will happen, but let's say it will. That means a $45 million weekend and $815 million after 24 days. During days 25-28 it should make at least another $15 million (again worst-case), leading to $830 million after four full weeks. Its fifth weekend is the MLK-weekend. It will also be the weekend after the announcement of the Oscar noms, where I strongly believe The Force Awakens will score a BP nod. Avatar rose over the 4-day MLK-weekend by 8%. Sherlock Hoömes dropped 27%, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey dropped 17% over the 4-day MLK-weekend. I think that with Oscar noms in the bag, TFA will drop no more than 15%, but let's go out on a limb and say it loses 25% over four days. From a $45 million 4th weekend, that is a $34 million weekend, giving it a $864 million total by the end of its fifth (long) weekend. During Tue-Thu it should collect another $7-8 million, for a $871-872 million total after five full weeks. In its sixth weekend, it should drop no more than 40-45% from its (3-day) 5th weekend, meaning a $16-17 million 6th weekend and a total around $890 million by the end of its sixth weekend. Now I have only used the very worst-case-scenario for this, but this still means passing $900 million before the end of January with the Presidents Day weekend ahead. I am very certain that its holds will be better than I have described above.

Re: Where Will SW Ep. 7 Land On The All Time Adjusted Chart?
The biggest problem with BOM's Adjusted Charts is that it is so unreliable...
Here are just some of the mistakes:
1) GWTW: for this movie actual admission numbers are used even though most of the other movies are indeed adjusted 2) SW had major re-relases in 78, 79, 81 and 82 but BOM lumps them all together 3) TSOM had a major re-release in 73, but BOM lumps all numbers together 6) dito T10C (60, 66, 72) 7) dito JAWS (79) 8) dito ZHIVAGO (71) 9) dito EXORCIST (76, 79) 10) dito SNOW WHITE (44 52 58 67 75)
and THE BIRTH OF A NATION is missing completely...

Re: Where Will SW Ep. 7 Land On The All Time Adjusted Chart?
Wait the worse it can do 4th weekend isn't 50%. Lots of movies outside of Avatar had 50%+ drops in 2010. Now I am not saying that SW7 will infact do less but its definitely not the worst. And in SW7's case a small percentage could mean millions in difference.

Re: Where Will SW Ep. 7 Land On The All Time Adjusted Chart?
I kinda doubt the Oscars' impact on SW box office.
Watching SW for watercooler discussion >>>> box office from Oscar attention
I can't think of anyone that is going to say "I'm only going to watch SW because it got nominated for best picture." It's going to make $1 B! I'd think the need to see something that everyone else has and to stay in the conversation is more important to folks than who the Academy decides to support. The Oscars will maybe have barely 1 or 2% impact on its gross.
With social media today, I'd argue with everyday folks they remember more and more what happened at the Golden Globes which tells you a lot about how far the Oscars have drifted.

2% means $20 million in its case, which would be pretty good.
