No, it won't. The BVS release date is too genius, Batmans the most popular character on Earth, Affleck is a mega star and Superman is Superman.

But they'll both be mega event style films.

The expectations are almost as big as TDKR's, but the amount of stuff which will be going on Avengers 2 sounds worrisome on paper. Going for the more serious/darker tone as well, plus loss of Loki and addition of horrible actor Aaron Johnson?

I think your downplaying how important it was that every single character in the Avengers was established prior to the film. They're still going to have to explain some things and bringing the team together again since they were too busy to help Cap in CA2. But if Ultron is the villain, where does the German villain on the ship fit in? What about the twins? Hawkeye has a bigger role? Avengers 2 sounds like it has all the making of a serious clusterfuck. Combine that with SKY HIGH expectations and I would say the chances of this being a disappointment relative to expecs is quite high.

But Marvel doesn't really aim for dramatic creative and audiences are guzzling shit like Guardians of the Galaxy, so maybe it won't matter.

It is important that Ultron is well liked but this also has the well received Winter Soldier to help bolster excitement too. IM/Civil War will just launch it through the stratosphere.

At some point, they'll hit a peak, and level off. Have they already? If they treat this as a Captain America film, I think $350 mil is the max, even with Iron Man. Iron Man 3 only exploded because it was directly after The Avengers, and it had 'meh' legs.

I'm out for now. If Avengers 2 can make $550+ mil, I will probably join, but I don't think that will happen either.

It's not about the prediction, it's about the fanboyism you display when talking/criticizing MoS/BvS in general. Not quite Excel's level, but going there.

As crazy as it might sound I could actually see this outgrossing TA3 if any of those early rumors are the least bit true. Not saying TA3 won't be big itself, but I feel like after TA2/CA3 these movies will hit a peak and I don't believe audiences will show up in the same numbers for a Avengers movie where the main four are pushed to the sidelines.

TA4 should still do $400M+ since everybody is supposedly coming back together for that, but I wouldn't be surprised if TA3 did something like GOTG/IM numbers unadjusted. Although it could still be a MONSTER overseas.

TA3 will do over $450m but I do see your point in that TA3 may end up acting like a Potter 7 Part 1 or Twilight 4 Part 1 etc.

TA4 should see a major uptick to see it grossing around the same as TA1.

It's crazy how some people forget that BvS has the advantage of being the first time both superheroes debut on the big screen, Cap v Iron Man will mostly be seen as an avenger sequel

In 2016, novelty factor goes to BvS.

Novelty is not how you make $450m+, though. It needs to be a great film too.
