Fox has done a wonderful job marketing the movie and I've seen many commericals for it on the broadcast networks along with MTV and ABC Family. Variety has it tracking at $30M OW.
Predictions: Opening: $26 million Total: $70 million
Don't forget to take a poll on how much you predict that it will open with.

Sorry, that was very sarcastic on my part. I just disagree completely. I guess they share some elements, but I don't think they look similar at all.

Re: The Maze Runner Predictions
Well, they don't "look" similar, no, but the premise, as you stated, is basically identical. Well, to a general moviegoer it is anyway. Load of kids on their own to fight to the death/overthrow a dominant regime blah blah blah..

They're fighting to the death? Overthrowing a regime? Where? Are we watching different advertising?

Well, someone (government or regime) put these kids there. I presume the kids will try and overthrow this control. What is the purpose of putting these kids there? I assume it is to fight or something. It really doesn't matter what the film is ACTUALLY about, it only matters what it looks like, and to me it looks like THG.

Re: The Maze Runner Predictions
opening won't be anything higher than 25 million. It looks good but the release date and I don't really have a sense that the books are that huge, and Teen Wolf has a following but I don't think that's enough for a big opening. If teenage guys show up as well then it'll do well.
I'm gonna guess an opening around 19.

It looks good, it will do better than Beautiful creatures and the like. But I don't think it will do 30 million opening. It will be in the I Am Number 4 to Ender's Game range. 19/58

Re: The Maze Runner Predictions
It is a good novel, but I doubt the film will be very successful. Seems too low-key. Anything above $20 million opening weekend, I'd consider great for it.

Re: The Maze Runner Predictions
I think it should do around $30 million opening weekend. I've seen the trailer before EVERYTHING this summer and I'm already seeing a ton of TV spots. I don't think it looks very good but I've heard quite a few people talking about it.

Fox’s “The Maze Runner,” based on the book by James Dashner, is on track for a $30 million opening when it bows on Sept. 19.
That’s quite an impressive feat — not just because the U.S. box office is having its worst summer in nearly a decade, but also because both males and females are saying they will buy tickets, which is unusual for a YA book adaptation. Even action-driven projects like “The Hunger Games” started out with women outpacing men in desire to see the film. And while the “Maze Runner” books are nowhere near as popular as “The Hunger Games” or “Twilight,” appealing to both genders could help the studio launch a movie franchise with the story of a boy whose memory is erased and must try to escape from a maze in which he finds himself trapped.

Re: The Maze Runner Predictions
I see it earning around 65 to 70 million. Similar to the second Percy Jackson.

So hoping for a breakout with this. The book was a blast and I'd love to see the sequels made. The second movie is already casting.

Re: The Maze Runner Predictions
Seriously hope this does well. I know a lot of people who want to see it, including myself. Seems to be one that will do solid and improve upon its audience for the rest of the series. Fingers crossed anyway. As long as this can do at least 60 in the US I believe they'll make the next.

Re: The Maze Runner Predictions
I saw the film last night. It's pretty decent but feels rushed, the characters are paper thin and aren't interesting. That said I could see this being very successful since we haven't had a 'big' movie to see in theaters in a long time.
