in a recent interview with Kevin Feige they said they are not moving their scheduled Marvel film off that date even though Batman Vs Superman is now on that date. Is this wise of Marvel or foolhardy?

They will move. Feige just doesn't want to look weak. Also, I'm pretty sure they want to do Guardians 2 on that date and need to find out if the gross of the first will even justify making a sequel before they announce it.

It would be idiotic for them to stay there. BVS is going to open over $125 mil, why would you want to go head to head with that?

yeah so again, if CA2 does well, they'll move this to April. Marvel will move as soon as the trailer for BvS come and the internet breaks over it.

We're 2+ years away from this. Anyone who thinks this will stay put is fooling themselves. We've had plenty of instances where two major films were slated at the same date and stayed like that for a while until one of them finally moved.

While I also beliee that one will move, one should note that in this case Kevin Feige actually went out of his way to say that it won't move.

the more important reveal though is the fact that CA3 is Marvel's first big post-Avengers flick (not counting Ant-Man as a major flick) and will come out before Thor 3, despite the fact that CA2 is coming 6 months after Thor 2.

This would suggest that Avengers 2 leads to CA3.

Kinda makes sense because apparently CA2 is a major connection to The Avengers 2 and I assume this will probably funcition as sorta-trilogy-in-itself: CA2 ==> The Avengers 2 ==> CA3

I mean, I'm sure if Marvel had the chance to make Iron Man 4 with RDJ, it would be that instead of CA3, but they don't and I guess they count on CA to be a more potent franchise than Thor.

If early word on CA2 is to be believed, maybe they are right. At least domestically.

Depends if CA 3 is the film after TA2 it will not be some small film.

Likley easily be a 200+ million film and quite a big hit overseas.

I think DC wants this date as they saw with TA and Spiderman films and IM films, it a great date especially overseas.

CA3 will blink first. No way Marvel would release their film against Batman vs Superman which is an event film somewhat similiar to the first Avengers.

I'm assuming CA2 can get to $225 mil. So will that lead to a $250+ mil CA3?

If not, going up against BVS isn't a smart move.

Even if Snyder makes a film that's received as "well" as MOS, it's going to LOOK fucking awesome. And WB will market the living FUCK out of it.

Though it would be a VERY fun weekend to track.

The most recent example of two big film on the same weekend was the Hobbit 3 and DOFP. For a long time WB said they were staying, and then they moved. Of course DOFP gave up that date too. I think Marvel will blink and move the film to April.

And this also applies overseas as well.

It would still hurt both movies, not just CA3.

even though it's stupid, I think it'd be REALLY fun to track this. I dunno when we had two guaranteed huge "hits" that are hitting the same day with the same demographic.

Eh, if Captain America 2 is well-received, its sequel is going to have a lot more goodwill than BvS will. I don't think that should be underestimated.

If anyone moves, I think it'll be BvS. Marvel laid claim to this date ages ago, as they have to the summer opening date for years. DC has always opened in the heat of summer, and I don't see why they can't do the same here.

agreed. but it hurts CA3 more.

I do not believe BvS would really be affected if at all. WB will market it as an event film because you have two of the most iconic superhero fighting each other. This is a fan boy film and CA will be on its third film from a second tier superhero.

Captain America is not exacly second-tier. I'd agree with you if Man of Steel had been better received. But it was not.

Iron Man 2 wasn't well received.

MOS still made 290 million even when Superman Returns was not really that well received. All I'm saying is BvS is not dependent at all with the WOM of the films. Still both Superman Returns and MOS outgrossed Captain America by a large margin.
