 $100m+ movies of 2016
2013 holds this record currently with 35 movies above the mark. As big as 2015 was we didn't even see 30 movies above this mark.
How many movies will be above this mark in 2016?
Here is a list (this can be changed if many posters think a movie is placed incorrectly except for the ones whom I don't read posts aka Algren)
LOCKS: 1. Deadpool 2. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice 3. The Jungle Book 4. Captain America: Civil War 5. Alice Through the Looking Glass 6. X-Men: Apocalypse 7. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows 8. Finding Dory 9. Independence Day: Resurgence 10. The Secret Life of Pets 11. Ice Age: Collision Course 12. Star Trek Beyond 13. Untitled Next Bourne Chapter 14. Suicide Squad 15. Doctor Strange 16. Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them 17. Moana 18. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Candidates 1. Kung Fu Panda 3 2. How to Be Single 3. Zoolander 2 4. London Has Fallen 5. Zootopia 6. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 7. Rings 8. The Boss 9. Mother's Day 10.Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising 11. The Angry Birds Movie 12. Now You See Me 2 13. Warcraft 14.The Conjuring 2 15. Central Intelligence 16. Ghostbusters 17. Ben Hur 18. Pete's Dragon 19. SPA TBA (2016) 20. Storks 21. The Accountant 22. Gambit 23. The Girl on the Train 24. Inferno 25. The Great Wall 26. Passengers 27. Sing 28. The Divergent Series: Allegiant 29. The Huntsman: Winter's War 30. The BFG 31. The Legend of Tarzan 32. Trolls 33. 10 Cloverfield Lane 34. Jack Reacher 2 35. Bad Santa 2 36. Assassin's Creed
Let me know if I missed some.

Neither Neighbors 2 nor The Conjuring 2 are locks. Far from it. Chances are better for Kung Fu Panda 3, Zootopia (which is a lock) and Inferno.

 Re: $100m+ movies of 2016
I kept them there because the originals did so well. A big drop can still get them to $100m. I was also unsure of that so I guess best is to move them out to candidates.

 Re: $100m+ movies of 2016
If Neighbors drops similar to Ted 2 or Horrble Bosses 2, it is not making $100 million. If The Conjuring 2 drops similar to The Ring Two, it won't make $100 million. All very valid examples of how this can go.

The BFG and Trolls aren't locks either.
Kung Fu Panda 3, and Zootopia are locks. Kung Fu Panda is going to be the only kids film in February, and Zootopia is the only one in March.

I have updated the list to take out those 5 movies from locks. I will leave KFP3 and Zootopia as candidates even though I do believe they will get to this mark.

 Re: $100m+ movies of 2016
Aside from SW7 and TR that made $100m this year it seems it would be KFP3 or Deadpool to become the first 2016 movie to be #1.

 Re: $100m+ movies of 2016
Gambit has been moved off the 2016 schedule, so I'd replace it with The Magnificent Seven. You should probably consider a few Oscar bait films: Sully , Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, and Silence (Scorsese film) There are always a few that do pretty well.

 Re: $100m+ movies of 2016
The Oscar bait's are so unpredictable. I just can't put all of them in there. That would be like putting the half of the schedule from October to December in the Candidate list. Let's just be surprised with a few that get added in this list.

 Re: $100m+ movies of 2016
With RA2 slowing down and KFP3 chasing this mark slowly it could very well be the case that Deadpool opens HUGE and sneaks to become the first movie of 2016 above this mark (ofcourse SW7 and Revenant have both reached this mark in 2016).

 Re: $100m+ movies of 2016
Deadpool cuts Panda down to size as he becomes the first 100 million movie of 2016. $100 million movies of 2016 Rank - Movie - Number of days to reach the mark - Date on which they reached the mark 1. Deadpool- 3 - February 14 2. Kung Fu Panda 3- 18 - February 15
Deadpool was the rare blockbuster to double expectations, with one of the top debuts ever for an original film, and the largest R rated debut by a huge margin. It creamed the President's Day, Valentine's Day and February day/weekend records, all while being a once thought obscure adaptation of a not too well known comic book character. Well that was certainly proven wrong. Kung Fu Panda 3 was unable to reverse the downward trajectory of the franchise despite being just as well reviewed as the first two. It has had solid holding power, but it is unlikely to gross more than 140 million by the end of its run.
Upcoming Films Zootopia
Leaving the List Ride Along 2, How to Be Single, Zoolander 2

Good call Jack Sparrow - the monster opening helped DP beat out KFP by a day.

Looks like DP will get into first of almost all the lists if it gets past $300m.

So Divergent series won't see a third movie in this list. BvS should get in this list by 2 days.

Strike out movies that came out and aren't potential $100m+ grossers anymore (Cloverfield, Divergent...).

Batman V Superman battle past $100m $100 million movies of 2016 Rank - Movie - Number of days to reach the mark - Date on which they reached the mark 1. Deadpool- 3 - February 14 2. Kung Fu Panda 3- 18 - February 15 3. Zootopia - 8 - March 11 4. Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice - 2 - March 26
Batman V Superman fights past a lot of factors but still breezes past the $100m in just 2 days.
Upcoming Films The Boss, The Jungle Book
While not quite there with 2013 this is still a decent start for 2016 in this list. It should get 6 or maybe even 7 movies till April release calender.

The way things are shaping The Boss seems like it will miss the mark and The Jungle Book could reach this in 5 to 6 days.

The Jungle Book spirals past $100m $100 million movies of 2016 Rank - Movie - Number of days to reach the mark - Date on which they reached the mark 1. Deadpool- 3 - February 14 2. Kung Fu Panda 3- 18 - February 15 3. Zootopia - 8 - March 11 4. Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice - 2 - March 26 5. The Jungle Book - 3 - April 17
The Jungle Book opened HUGE and clawed past $100m in just 3 days.
Upcoming Films The Huntsman: Winter's War, Captain America: Civil War
I don't see Huntsman getting into this list but whatever. It should be Civil War next to enter this list.
