How to Train Your Dragon 2 (Intl)
The first one did $277.3m OS for a $494.9m WW total. This one will definitely increase in OS markets as the WOM was great for the last movie as well. I think this one can top $400m OS.

I don't think this has caught on overseas like in the US. I'd say $320m overseas.

Re: How to Train Your Dragon 2 (Intl)
I think this has a good shot to $400m.
This could gross well in China, nearing $50m (the first one made less than $15m)
I think this will at least match KFP2 in South Korea ($41m), given the first film was one of the really few animated movies to not flop there.
For Latin America, I can see a nice improvement. For the rest of the world I am not sure.

Re: How to Train Your Dragon 2 (Intl)
Asia will definitely see a big uptick. I am still worried about European countries but I can still see this one doing good there. There won't be a 3D increase this time for this movie so there isn't too much of added advantage there.

Re: How to Train Your Dragon 2 (Intl)
I hope it does well.
Might be affected by World Cup? Or maybe not, it's a family movie after all.

Toy Story 3 was released during World Cup in most Latin American and some European and Asian countries in 2010 and did fine, perhaps a little percent was indeed affected though.......... We'll never know

Yeah I don't see too big of an impact of World Cup on this one plus this is the first big animated movie in OS markets as well after Rio (not many local animated movies do great outside of Japan).

We'll never know Exactly. Unless, well, it handled the World Cup so well because it was Toy Story 3.

Re: How to Train Your Dragon 2 (Intl)
Toy Story 2 adjusted for inflation would do close to $350m OS but TS3 did $650m with good WOM so if HTTYD2 gets a good WOM I don't why it would be any different.

Quote: DreamWorks Animations’ How To Train Your Dragon 2 premiered out of competition in Cannes last month and gets its first taste of action one week before the North American debut when it flies into eight Middle East territories. I wonder why Fox/DreamWorks hasn't released any numbers...

I came to this thread expecting some numbers for this. It has opened in Singapore but they are sneak previews so I believe they will be added in opening weekend total.

Re: How to Train Your Dragon 2 (Intl)
From BO.com Quote: How to Train Your Dragon 2 took on a big expansion and played on 4,428 screens across 25 markets overseas. The film collected $24.8 million outside of North America to post a $26.5 million overseas cume and $76.5 million global haul on the weekend of its North American release. IMAX screenings worldwide contributed $2.1 million to that tally. The animated film expands to 28 markets next weekend. Don't know which markets it opened to but that does not seem to be a great opening IMO. Its expanding to 28 markets next so hopefully a bigger number next weekend.

Re: How to Train Your Dragon 2 (Intl)
The only major market it opened in was Russia. Quote: Launching in 25 markets day-and-date with the US, How to Train Your Dragon 2 began its overseas flight with $24.8m.
Highlights included a $12.8m bow in Russia for the industry’s fifth highest animation opening ever in the market, while Malaysia provided the industry’s biggest animated opening ever in the market at $2.3m. The Philippines and India grossed $1.9m and $1.2m, respectively, for the industry’s second highest animated openings ever in the markets.
The animated sequel opens in 28 markets next weekend, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil and Mexico. http://www.screendaily.com/news/godzill ... ntID=40079The UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and more get it in July/August.

Re: How to Train Your Dragon 2 (Intl)
I know some territories in Latin America had previews on Saturday and Sunday, however not sure if those numbers are already taken into account or will be included next week on its OW

Yes! My country had the biggest animated opening. I am pretty sure it's loved here.
The Art of book was constantly sold out and those books are expensive.

Re: How to Train Your Dragon 2 (Intl)
Only one big market makes sense that the OS total this weekend is a bit low. And this weekend was the start of World Cup so I don't see how it will collapse in the coming weekends.

Re: How to Train Your Dragon 2 (Intl)
How to Train Your Dragon 2 led the weekend with $43.5 million as it more than doubled its overseas run to 53 territories. Brazil stood out as the Dragon sequel generated the second best animated opening of all-time ($6.8 million) there despite the fervor surrounding the World Cup. Mexico also accounted for a strong $7.3 million.
Dragon 2 is #1 in over 30 markets this weekend, bringing its overseas tally to $77.2 million with major markets, including Europe, yet to open. The current global total is $172.4 million.

Re: How to Train Your Dragon 2 (Intl)
With the initial questions of the wisdom of releasing HTTYD2 against the World Cup, I find it interesting that the countries that care MORE about the World Cup are so far receiving it better than the U.S. is. Some have cited the World Cup as a possible hindrance against it here in the States - maybe we're not used to doing well in soccer and so we're more transfixed on our performance to the detriment of other activities?
The other conundrum - people also point to Maleficent as siphoning off HTTYD2's audience, yet the same problem doesn't seem to be holding true overseas (at least not as much as here). And of course, the space between the two films' releases will be longer in a lot of the upcoming major markets.
