The Clint Eastwood-directed adaptation of the hit musical will come out via Warner Bros. on June 20th, the same day as Think Like a Man Too and the nationwide expansion of The Rover. The film is rated R and runs 134 minutes.

Predictions?

16/50

For the record, I find this a strange one to predict. It feels as if it should be a bit of an event, at least among adults: Eastwood, Walken, the popularity of the source material. Yet there is this curiously muted quality to the advertising a month out, and right now, I just find it hard to picture very many people being excited for it.

Eastwood's characteristic grey-scale aesthetic drains it of a certain stand-up-and-cheer quality.

It benefits from being the first wide release of the summer aimed directly at adults, but Get On Up seems to have stolen its thunder as the It Musical Biopic of the summer. Legs will be solid, but it won't be as big as it could've been.

Opening: $17.2 million
Total: $67.3 million (3.91)

Yes.

I think this is going to be pretty big. Anyone who saw the musical and all the baby boomers and anyone who grew up listening to the music will be all over it. Add in Clint Eastwood, I think we have a winner.

Its a big property especially among the over 35's - Im expecting a minimum of $80m and likely over $100m.

I'm thinking around 45 Million total. Looks boring :P. I don't think audiences will be overly excited for it. Should do fine but nothing spectacular.

This looks fine but nothing like a $100m grosser. It won't open big enough to get $100m total though i think it can $70m-$75m which will be good for it.

There hasn't been a decent musical since...

{...I'm looking it up...}

...Hairspray, lo those seven long years ago.

I remain eternally optimistic about the genre and director, so I predict no less than $100m!

(Plus, the source theatrical musical was fantastic - - perhaps the last great theatre show I saw.)
