Didn't really excite me, but it's literally nothing, so...

Before that teaser I wasn't sure, but after having witnessed it: $250m/$900m.

So Disney drops a BOMB once again. Can't say I'm surprised and this is perfect timing for them aswell. We should have a better idea of what this can do after the trailer drops, although I'm not expecting a whole lot of footage.

Guys, just remember how Attack of the Clones fell so much from TPM. You're kidding yourself if you think that this time it will be different just because TFA was well received. "A Star Wars Story" feels like a spin-off, so that will go against it. But I will wait for a teaser before updating my prediction.

It is a spin off but I think if Darth Vader is in it, I think its doing 300-400 million likely.

Agree, but even if it drops 50% from TFA it may still be enough to win the year.

Trailer is kinda, sorta amazing.

I like that it's a long yet still teaser-y trailer. The teaser for TFA, as amazing as it was, was short (and it needed to be), but this one is long because it also needs to be. The anticipation isn't there for a short trailer. Anyway, good teaser. Effective and actually looks good.

I'll go with $350m total. It'll be big, but not TFA big. The "first one of the new era" magic has been spilled PLUS this is a spin-off with new characters and only small references to the main franchise. I could see a $90m-$110m opening.

Wait until they show Darth Vader in the next trailer. That instant the film will have added $100 million to its gross.

It's not going to make less on its opening weekend than The Force Awakens did on its opening day.

I'm leaning towards Dil's prediction, but obviously if/when they show Vader, I'll be bumping it up.

The fans don't seem to mind any longer that Disney owns the saga.

Why showing Vader is such a big deal? Isn't he pretty much done as a character? It's not like it's a remake/reboot or whatever. Although, if they somehow incorporate him kicking rebel ass with force and shit, then by all means show it in the trailer. That one thing that most(I assume) wanted from prequels was to see Vader being badass from New Hope. Yeah, Disney will go there.

Because he has the series biggest star since day 1. He got his own trilogy for Christ's sake.

Also, because they'll need that one EPIC! money shot to get the GA excited, especially with the lack of jedi/lightsaber action.

While I almost answered my own question in the same message, the question was more about "would just showing Vader mean so much"? They even sorta showed him in TFA trailer. I know it's the most well-known character and, duh, obviously people will go apeshit, but man... why?! It diminishes the character to a fucking candy for kids, "red" drape for bulls, boobs for teens or whatever stereotype you want to use as an analogue. Does it really work that good to center everything around Vader that gross will be substantially affected?
