Expected and following GOF.

Thinking a gross around THG + 10 million sounds right.

Lead over THG over CF went from 48 to 34 and should drop to 24-25 next weekend.

I wonder if Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom will expand between now and its nationwide launch on Christmas Day.

The Weinstein Company should push it. I would not consider it tasteless to do so. There is heightened fascination with Mandela at the moment, and they have a fairly prestigious film depicting his life in their release arsenal, so they might as well go for it.

Delivery Man might leg its way to a decent enough total, particularly considering it only cost 26 million.

It may have some effect, but the forecast isn't for a shutdown kind of weather event. Just a few inches of snow. It's not like the streets will be covered in a foot of snow.

Inside Llewyn Davis $401,000 = $100,250 PTA

It's enough to get people to not want to go outside of if they don't have to. Frozen and CF are currently projected for sub-40% drops on Sunday and I think actuals will be much closer (if not over) 40%.

Those are optimistic Sunday drops anyway. For my sake in my games, I hope Catching Fire stays over 27M though.

I'm kind of impressed by Delivery Man's run. I never would have thought a 30 million total was possible after a sub 8 million opening.

Here's hoping CF can manage over 12 million next weekend against Hobbit.

Why would it drop that hard?

Last year, no Top 10 film dropped more than 45.3% when The Hobbit opened. That (worst) drop would give Catching Fire $14.8 million. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 (arguably a HUGELY frontloaded film) dropped 43.9% against The Hobbit. That'd give Catching Fire a $15.1 million weekend.

So I expect something around $15-16 million.

True but every film was a month old and nothing over 7 million. I also think Hunger Games (Families, Nerds) is a much bigger competition against the Hobbit than Twilight (Teenage girls) that it won't be able to avoid a 50% drop.

ILD is definitely the winner this weekend. Will be interesting to see how the film plays out over the holidays.

Sunday drops for Frozen and Catching Fire are way too optimistic. Both will go down

I agree. It had a great hold this weekend coming off a holiday weekend. I think they should expand it more much sooner now. Apparently Weinstein has said they won't cash in on Mandela's death like that, but I say they may as well strike while interest is there.

Actuals just came in for both films.

For Frozen, the weekend total did go down...by less than $25,000. But the decrease is entirely because Friday dropped from estimates. Both Saturday and Sunday went up, and the actual Sat-Sun drop was only 0.1% bigger than the estimates.

But you were right about CF - Sunday's actually decreased from the estimate almost $1m. Since Saturday also increased from estimates, CF's real Sunday drop was almost 46%...

Well Lionsgate has a history of over-estimating THG.
