300: Rise of an Empire is a strange bird. I always forget it is coming out.

Re: First 2014 film to earn 100 million?
Same here I don't see any buzz or interest in 300 specially with no Butler.
I believe a movie from January will do it this time. I am going with Jack Ryan as of now. Getting is differentiated from holiday blockbusters will help it out IMO.
If not that then I see Lego movie getting to $100m, the early start from Feb will definitely help it eek out the record before the bigger Feb openers.

Probably Hercules, if not that then Captain America. If Peabody is before it can do well, but those kind of adaptations are weird to predict.

Lego, Robocop, or Mr. Peabody & Sherman.

I totally forgot that Captain America releases on first week of April. I can assure you there will atleast be one movie before that to reach $100m.

Re: First 2014 film to earn 100 million?
Technically it should Jack Ryan but I suspect that will finish around $80m. Ride Along also has potential.
But I'll go with The Lego movie.

I voted for Jack Ryan. Lego has potential as well. I think something from the first two months will do it.

if not Captain America then some adult-leggy film. Divergent doesn't seem like it has the hype to be that huge but we'll see.

Re: First 2014 film to earn 100 million?
After Frozen opens, there is basically nothing appealing to children or families until The Lego Movie opens over 2 months later. So it should do well, even if only serving as a default choice for children, families, or even adults audiences before Mr. Peabody & Sherman.

Re: First 2014 film to earn 100 million?
Lego has HUGE potential. The company was almost at rock bottom in the 90s until they started tie-ins with all the major franchises - Marvel, DC, Potter, Disney, LOTR, Star Wars etc
This film is a product of that and looks like they will also cash in at the BO. I'm expecting over $150m.
Monuments Men also has a good shot at over $100m.
Divergent is hard to pick. While I don't think its anywhere near a THG or Twilight - I think its a rare mid range teen entry - so it wont tank but likely not get to $100m either. Probably $70-$90m.

Re: First 2014 film to earn 100 million?
I think a lot of people are understimating the potential of Jack Ryan in January. Baring the fact that Hercules is big JR will act as big movie that will attract blockbuster crowd. Seperating itself from competition only helps and it had a potential of $100m if not more before as well.
Lego Movie does look great and its trailers always get good reaction here (even though this thread is for domestic total I believe its the same everywhere). The competition is going to be weak as Dinosaurs would have faded by February.
Its going to be between Jack Ryan and Lego movie IMO.

Re: First 2014 film to earn 100 million?
If Ride Along comes out in Jan or Feb, then definitely that.
I fear all the direct-to-DVD Lego movies will hurt The Lego Movie's potential, as some might mistake it for that.
