Imitation Game will get 100k average, impressive. I hope that Mockingjay number sticks.

That is really strong for everything except the openers.

Mockingjay may match the first two's multipliers after all, even though it will likely still be number 2 for the year, which is still very disappointing.

Big Hero 6 is essentially a lock for 200 million now, as is Interstellar for 175 million. Could Oscar noms push it past 200 million?

But both openers are such turkeys, which I guess is appropriate. Penguins is barely going to out gross Rise of the Guardians, which is a result few saw coming. The fact it won't be making 40 million over its five day weekend is absolutely pathetic. Will Dreamworks ever get out of their slump?

But Horrible Bosses 2 is doing even worse. Its 5 day won't just be less than the firsts 3 day opening, it will be 33% less, which is also a result few saw coming, especially with its decent pre sales. 70 million at best is not a result Warner Bros. was hoping for.

Disappointing for me as I was expecting Frozen #2. But I suppose it's actually a great total, and one that DreamWorks cannot seem to reach recently.

At least there is plenty of room for Zootopia and Moana to go up from here.

Yeah, a 100 million drop in total is really strange for what looked like a very consistent franchise. I think the people who didn't show up for Mockingjay were the people who were ambivalent/apathetic to the first two films. A good amount of those people will probably show up for Part 2 but 400 million looks a lot harder than it did a year ago.

Franchise fatigue, just like all franchises. The Hunger Games is not solely made up of fans. It has a portion of casual viewers too. A mix of less casual spectators, plus less multiple views by the die hard crazies means that the overall + opening were hit.

Theory of Everything's pta down $500 from last Friday, terrific.

Horrible Bosses is embarrassing. I'm sure it will recapture its budget and all that, but this was a huge missed opportunity.

It didn't help that it opened on Thursday.

Franchise fatigue happens when a film is significantly worse received than the previous film, like Shrek 3's effect on Shrek 4, or if the franchise's original storyline gets a spinoff, like The Hobbit. Catching fire was at least as well received as the original, if not better, and it is till the same unresolved story, so I don't think it is franchise fatigue.

This obviously could not impact the opening, but the financial drop is strangely borne out by the quality of the dreary, unevenly paced, profoundly uneventful film compared to the color and general zip of Catching Fire.

The only comparison is the drop between Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban but even that isn't nearly as bad. It is really strange to see that drop. Of course it happened a lot in the 80s and 90s with sequels but less often with franchises today.

Very disappointing for Horrible Bosses 2.

As expected poor start from HB2 and Penguins didn't do great either. MJ1 on the other hand is not loosing ground to CF's holds which could lead to a very interesting total very close to GoTG's. LG might push MJ1 past the $332m mark I believe if it crosses $329m.
