 Re: Weekend Estimates (so far)
Great number, of course. It doesn't do as much for me as the Friday number does, since it's so close to SM3's, and means that TDK fell behind Spidey on Saturday and Sunday.

 Re: Weekend Estimates (so far)
Box Office Guru had it at $65M yesterday. So there's still potential to go up. Come on Mojo! Let's get some real numbers.

Its OD/midnight is the more impressive numbers because its midnights were able to beat Sith by 2m and its OD did way above SM3 after only just a year. But the biggest opening weekend of all time ain't too shabby either Yes, but the number itself doesn't impress me, because it's essentially the same figure as for SM3, and if it is $153m, and considering IMAX, actually translates to fewer admissions. All other opening weekend records were decisive blow-outs. This is a squeak. Not complaining, really, as TDK's opening is more impressive, in relation to expectations, than SM3's was, but we need to put it into perspective.

 Re: Weekend Estimates (so far)
Don't forget SM3 didn't open so high, and didn't have such a strong SAT and SUN due to itself. The No.2 film that weekend, Disturbia in it's 4th weekend made just 5.8M. It benefited very much from there being absolutely NOTHING else to see that entire weekend. Had it opened with a 25+ opener, and several holdovers over 10M, it probably would have opened just a little north of DMC, like TDK is going to do against SM3. So SM3's OW was greatly inflated.

I'm pretty sure BOG uses Darling Nikki as his industry source...

 Re: Weekend Estimates (so far)
Yeah, this has the closest the opening record has been beaten by since Jurassic Park opened to just two million more than Batman Returns. Still, though, the record was not begging to be beat like the last couple of times. This was mostly unexpected.

 Re: Weekend Estimates (so far)
The Mag-Pod wrote: Well keep in mind that even SM1 OW record would have probably been barley beaten by Matrix Reloaded a year after, if MR opened on a Friday.
We had that string from 2003-2005 where a lot of the major event films (MR, ROTS, SM2, etc.) opened on a non-Friday, thus SM1 was able to keep its OW record for so long. I hope you're not using this as an excuse to discount SM1's achievement. TDK's opening is amazing, probably the second greatest opening of this decade, but it doesn't come close to SM1's opening. We've seen numbers like TDK's already, whether the previews or Friday minus the previews, or the Sat/Sun/OW figures. Sm1's opening was wholly unprecedented. And I still don`t get what was so surprising about Iron Man`s opening...

 Re: Weekend Estimates (so far)
Box with 155 I think it actually matches up with Spiderman 3 with admissions.

 Re: Weekend Estimates (so far)
Yeah this is going to be all over the news and will drive the hype machine through the roof now.
When people here of TDK breaking the record, that will drive some people to check out the big fuss.
Now a 60 million 2nd weekend is assured so it will not blast past 350 million.

 Re: Weekend Estimates (so far)
Why does nobody mention $27.61m for MM! and $7.35m for SC? http://www.nielsenedi.com/charts/index.html

Because The Dark Knight made over $155m.

Woooho for Mamma Mia! It has beaten Hairspray by about 200k aslong as it stays where it is in the actuals.

Nobody should care, rightfully. Mamma Mia! was expected to make around that and SC was expected to flop.

 Re: Weekend Estimates (so far)
Look at the drops
-71% for HellBoy -56% for Hancock -43% for Journey (not bad) -47% for Wall-E
So apart from Hellboy not bad but if there was no TDK they would have had 50-40% drops...

 Re: Weekend Estimates (July 18-20)
So Fri. - 66m Sat. - 50m Sun. - 39m = 155m
