 Will Turbo miss 100 million?
Anyone else have a bad vibe regarding this upcoming DreamWorks/Fox animated movie? It has a prime summer release date, the usual eclectic voice cast (led by Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson), no doubt a very big budget, etc., but I don't believe the concept--snail racing (snail racing!)--will enthrall audiences, and families will be over-served after Monsters University, Despicable Me 2, The Lone Ranger, and even, to a certain extent, Grown Ups 2, so competition will be heavy.

Re: Will Turbo miss 100 million?
I think it'll be close, but ultimately yes. This film will also do poorly overseas in my opinion.
Monsters University will still be in 2000+ theaters and be bringing in $6m+ the weekend of Turbo's release and Despicable Me 2 will probably be in 3500+ theaters and bringing in $25m+. That's not to say it can't overcome that, but rather that there isn't exactly going to be a welcoming opportunity for it like there was for The Croods.
It's legs are also limited by The Smurfs and Planes released 2 and 4 weeks later. That will be 5 computer-animated films released in an 8 week time-span. Nothing close to this has ever happened before.

Planes isn't going to exactly do well, though. It was going DTV for a while.

Disney doesn't have all the answers. They will probably market the hell out of it, but I can't see people lining up to see it.

Re: Will Turbo miss 100 million?
No interest in this movie, but I will say that Rise of the Guardians grossed $103m and that was considered a disappointment for DreamWorks. I just can't see Turbo ending with less than Guardians. Audiences, prove me wrong.

Re: Will Turbo miss 100 million?
It looks absolutely TERRIBLE. And I can't really think of a life form that's less consumer friendly than a snail/slug... maybe fungus?
Will probably be Dreamworks' lowest grossing CG film, so sub $90m.

Re: Will Turbo miss 100 million?
I'll go with yes. Despicable Me (and to a lesser extent MU) will still be doing well by its Wednesday release. Wouldn't be surprised if it made less than 65.

Re: Will Turbo miss 100 million?
Definitely not - I'm still seeing $140 million or more for it. It's a wide appealing orignal animated film - the other big family pics this summer are sequels. I think it will surprise.

Re: Will Turbo miss 100 million?
Epic BARELY made it with a barren marketplace. No WAY this makes $100 mil with all the competition.
