 Predict top 5 of August
This seems kind of tough as besides 2 Guns and Elysium there doesn't really seem to be any other guaranteed hits. For now I'll go with this. 1. Elysium - 150 million 2. 2 Guns - 115 million 3. We're The Millers - 80 million 4. Kick-Ass 2 - 50 million 5. Percy Jackson - 45 million Well that's pretty crappy. I guess at least one thing other than Elysium will breakout too. I dunno about The Butler, think it'll get bad reviews.

Re: Predict top 5 of August
Planes and Mortal Imstruments are the biggest wild cards for next month. They can really go either way.
Elysium will win with at least $125M (the new trailer I think will really help it be a success).
I think Millers will do more than 2 Guns and Kick Ass 2 should do at least $55 million.
Hopefully The World's End breaks out a little due to Hot Fuzz/Shaun of the Dead's goodwill and makes over $30 million.

Re: Predict top 5 of August
I guess Percy Jackson is a wild card too though it would be odd to see it "just" make $45 million total given the success of the first. Then again, the sequel hasn't has great marketing so far.

Re: Predict top 5 of August
This month is so crowded. Hmm. There's bound to be a sleeper in there people aren't talking about much yet.
Not sure on a top 5 yet but: 1. 2 Guns - 120 2. Elysium - 110 3. We're the Millers - 75

Re: Predict top 5 of August
Outside of 2 Guns and Elysium I really have no idea about the potential of any of the other releases.
We're The Millers and The Butler seem to be the obvious sleeper hits of the month, but I'm hoping You're Next and Kick Ass 2 can surprise aswell.
Anyways, here is my best guess.
1. Elysium - 125 2. 2 Guns - 110 3. Smurfs 2 - 90 4. We're The Millers - 70 5. Percy Jackson - 55

Re: Predict top 5 of August
Smurfs was well received and had a 4 + multiplier. I see it as a candidate for winning the month even with competition.
Elysium $155 m Smurfs $130 m 2 G $130 m Planes $125 m

Re: Predict top 5 of August
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the openings of 2 Guns and Elysium are REALLY close. Like TE and TOG back in 2010 or IB and D9 the year before.
I really want $40M+ for them both, but mid-high 30's seems more likely at this point. Elysium has ALOT of potential though.
I'm LOVING the marketing so far.

Re: Predict top 5 of August
Hopefully The Mortal Instruments does well enough to make the Top 5. The sequel begins filming in Toronto on September 23rd.

Yeah, the same director and cast members are already signed on and the script is finished. The first movie adaptation of the prequel book series is already in development as well. I hope it does decently enough, at least $60/70 million. It's one of the better recent young adult series, in my opinion, and maybe the only franchise in the near future that features a number of main gay characters. The author of the books wasn't going to sell the rights unless they kept the sexual orientation of her characters in the movies.

Re: Predict top 5 of August
I'm surprised. I was going to say I bet they changed that for the movies. I wonder if it's glossed over though?
Anyway, I think it's probably only going to do 40-45 Million. We'll see. Is it known what the budget was?

I know for the role of a certain main character (I won't mention names or gender), it involved them discussing their orientation with another character. Same scene as in the book. The author says she hasn't read any changes to these scenes, and she's been adamant about keeping them in the movie since before selling the rights. One of the gay/bi characters is probably the most popular in the entire series, so changing their scenes wouldn't be a good idea. I don't know what the budget is, hopefully no more than $50/60 million though. It really shouldn't be more than films like Underworld or the first 3 Twilight films.

Re: Predict top 5 of August
It's only addressed like twice in the first book. The important one appears to have been filmed, being the audition scene for the role, and the other one(s) like the article you linked says mostly hints at future events.

whaaaa Mortal Instruments sequel has already been given the go? That's surprising. Honestly I don't see it passing 40 million unless I'm underestimating the fanbase.

Yeah, I really wonder what the next young adult novel-turned-film will break out. Beautiful Creatures and The Host were flops and I'm getting that feeling from Mortal Instruments as well. I want to know the budget for it.

Yep Mortal Instruments is giving the vibe of just $50m-$60m total. Even if it does better the sequel might have tough time breaking even. Hope they try harder with the marketing.

Elysium looks more and more like a big breakout. We're the Millers should also make bank thanks to being the first major comedy in a while.
