Considering Baz's previous movies have all tapped out at around 50 Million TOTAL it would be huge.

My friend watched it at midnight and me and him are quite similar like 99% really in movie taste and says it was just a big over top visual film.

Even so Chippy, I think the film will likely be well recieved for its target demo so it will be okay.

Magic Mike did 2.05M in previews, and Sex & The City did 2.5M. They opened to 39 and 57 million respectively. That would correlate to a 62-74M opening if they were directly translated. Also, The Great Gatsby shouldn't be any more frontloaded than those films since they both also targeted women and in SATC's case also had a huge fanbase. However, the key here, I think, is the rating and the pre-midnight previews. The PG-13 rating and the 10pm shows vs. R rating and midnight provided an opportunity for more of the interested audience to see the movie Thursday night.

Still, an opening below 40M seems extremely unlikely at this point. The question is how high can it go?

This is seriously one of the big breakout stories of the year so far. I remember a bunch of people were predicting sub-100 Million total just a few weeks ago.

I say 50 million looks good as this film was very hype up by young people and females.

$3.25 million is excellent for Gatsby previews, especially since they didn't start popping up until very recently.

It won't top Iron Man 3 unless it has a crazy huge breakout (even more crazily huge than it's going to get, anyway), but it's still in line for a very, very successful opening.

I have not liked the look of the film and the way it was done and was bearish however last week you could not deny the twitter and buzz and I did say for 40+ million since the start of this week.

Opening over 50 million would past anyone expectation and to be honest is a good sign for the summer to have the mid level films do well.

Last Summer it was TA and TDKR that did great.

This year I expect the big expected grossers like IM3 and ST to simply do around expectations.

Next film to break out will be Fast six and MOS however they are already expected to cross 200 and 300 million.

Next weekend has a movie too!

This Gatsby number is definitely the work of the recent tv spots. Marketing teams should get coverage, it would help our predictions.
