Re: Hobbit 2 says screw 8PM showings
I know this goes against popular opinion but I actually like the earlier showings on Thursdays. That being said, I would never see this at 8PM or at midnight

I like it regardless of late night runs....that said midnight shows are not very popular in Asian markets so I have done that once or twice though never at an opening midnight show.

Nice.
I can't remember if the Hobbit IMAX I went to last year was a 10pm showing, maybe it was midnight then too. Whatever the case I had to stop at McDs after that showing. Ya know, there's just something more unique about a midnight crowd. Freaking 8pm and even 10pm crowds are quite listless and unemotional at times. I hope Star Wars copies this move. Those were some of the best midnights ever.

And I really hope they do the same with Star Wars.

Then surely it should be: I will never see this.

Those were some of the best midnights ever. I agree. I've always enjoyed midnight crowds. You can FEEL the energy and excitement. It's in the background buzz of conversations, it's in the random hoots and hollers. It's in the vehicle traffic that passes the line, with quizzical drivers wanting to know what is going on.. Part of the frenzy is derived from the fact that you're in a crowded movie theater at twelve freakin oh one in the morning! Another reason is obviously that it brings out the hardcore geekdom. ------ With that said, 8 and 10pm showings don't generally take anything away from midnight screenings. People who go to midnight showings are the same crop of passionate fans, no matter if there were earlier showings. In my experience...

It's also probable though that since this became the norm we haven't really had films that would generate massive GEEKGASM like Avengers or Batman did. Not sure if you are disagreeing with my preceding post but if you are, I'm just talking about midnight showings and how the 8/10pm showings don't noticeably diminish the collective geekasms you experience at midnights.

Re: Hobbit 2 says screw 8PM showings
One of their best songs Never been to a midnight screening and unlikely too either. Hobbit like all the LOTR films is an afternoon post Christmas, summer holiday experience for me. But I do like the thought of a midnight screening and the hard cores out in force.
