I'm a bit fascinated by how well this film has done. Looks to make another 1 Million this weekend in 356 theaters, putting its total at around 9 Million. I do think it might have been smart of Weinstein to gradually expand the film at the moment as mature moviegoers have their plates full with the Oscar films, but sometime soon as they fade I believe they need to take this wide. There will definitely be room for a film attracting an older audience. Should eventually reach 800-1,000 theaters. Not all at once, but they should start speeding up the expansion sometime soon. The 8th looks like a good weekend for a significant expansion, IMO. Then maybe another on the 15th. I do think there's potential to reach 20 Million if it were to go wide and they advertised it enough. But for now I'd say it might do 15 Million. Hopefully they're smart about this. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel's 46+ Million proves there's definitely an audience for this kind of film.
I'm personally not even interested in the film, but I am very interested in its Box Office performance.

Dowton Abbey turned Maggie Smith into a box-office draw for certain audiences, heh.
I'm thinking $14 million. It was stupid not to go wider with this, though.

It's not too late. It has been building momentum. I can't imagine they won't go wider.

The PTA is not that strong anymore. I'd be surprised if it goes wider than 500-600 theatres, whereas it should have hit 800 theatres about three weeks ago.

Re: How Far Will "Quartet" Go?
They also haven't bothered to kick up the advertising for it yet though. The only ad I've ever seen for it has been the one during the Golden Globes. Though I do understand there's an ad after like every episode of Downtown Abbey.
Would be disappointing if they didn't at least attempt 600 theaters. I don't believe Weinstein is giving up on the film yet. I definitely believe they're holding off until awards season is done.

Maybe it is just their new strategy and they'll expand it in May...

I went with 15 Million. I don't think it will have much trouble getting there.

A couple of theaters around here are getting this this weekend so it might be seeing a solid expansion. I'd say at least 150 theaters. I also saw a TV spot for it last night.

My theater is also getting it. My local art theater down the street from where I live got it, but I missed it. They don't accept credit cards, so I'm glad I'll be able to go to my theater that accepts Movie Pass to see it.

Whoa. This is already up to 546 theaters on MovieFone for Friday. By comparison Phantom is only at 800+ and that's supposed to be going into 2,000+. So Quartet looks like it might be seeing 700-900 theaters. Looks like this will be its big expansion.

Wonder if they give an additional discount if attendees bring their AARP cards

Re: How Far Will "Quartet" Go?
They should be airing TV spots on CBS for this, at least during their older-skewing shows. Basically all of their hour-long ones . I don't watch much CBS so I can't say if they have been or not. I only watched 2 Broke Girls the other night and you wouldn't see one during that anyway.
Will be interesting to see how the PSA holds up for it. Sometimes a movie can expand and the average barely takes a hit, or even increases. I don't see this increasing, but the average might not be hit too bad. I'm thinking it might be somewhere in the $2,300 range.
It's almost too bad they didn't wait until next weekend because it may have been able to make it into the top 10 then.

That's great news. I was able to catch it here and its a great movie. I am going with $15m as of now but if the expansion goes well then $20m might be in play.

Re: How Far Will "Quartet" Go?
It saw a decent PSA this weekend of $2,428 from 725 theaters. Considering it had a $3,163 average in just 356 theaters last weekend the PSA drop isn't too bad. I believe it could have another 100 theater expansion left in it.
Total is now 11M+.

Anyone think this will get to 20 Million? If it has great legs, and it probably will, there's a great chance. 18 Million should happen at least.
