what would The Prestige make if it was Nolan's next?
After Dark Knight, Dark Knight Rises, and Inception, I think it's fair to say Nolan's name is now associated with big event type movies. What if the The Prestige was made now, with Nolan credit the way it is. I have to think it would have made more, but how much?

Pure speculation, but certainly more than $100 million.

Yeah good point it would be much much bigger. I'd say $40/$150m.

It's still a movie about magic... It would've been close to $100 mil though.

Re: what would The Prestige make if it was Nolan's next?
Bigger question, what would have Inception had made in 2006 in October. Maybe 120 million.
I just don't see really anything marketing wise any year that makes the Prestige open higher than 25 million.

On paper nobody would have thought a movie like Black Swan would either.

Sure The Prestige would make more dough due to the Cult of the Nolanites, but it could still never hope to be half the movie that The Illusionist was.

Re: what would The Prestige make if it was Nolan's next?
One element of The Prestige which seems to frustrate a lot of people and may have been an even larger concern if the film were a huge, huge hit: the fact it's set up as a film which, no matter how complex or twisty it becomes, will remain defined by sleight-of-hand and realistic misdirection, but then it resolves itself by introducing an over-the-top, unrealistic element of fantasy/science fiction.

Re: what would The Prestige make if it was Nolan's next?
I think Spielberg and M Night have been much better publicized.
I'm guessing a bit more. I think Inception grossed on its own strength. Prestige was a different game in terms of marketability.

The illusionist was garbage in every measurable facet, a poor man's, watered-down Prestige-lite... for dummies.

It doesn't matter when it was made because you can still tell the twist within the first 5 minutes. What The Prestige needs is to be better made!

Re: what would The Prestige make if it was Nolan's next?
The concept would still be a tough sell, but Nolan and Bale are much bigger now. 40/150 ball park seems logical. That killed me.
