Silver Linings Playbook increasing with just the Best Actress win (which most anticipated anyway) is pretty damn great!

Argo passed The Departed's total.

Very nice multiplier for Jack anyway.

Post Re: Weekend Estimates
Jack the Giant Slayer is off to a weak start, as expected. It seemed like Warner Bros had given up on the film, so it was destined to a similar fate as John Carter last year. The huge Saturday increase and large multiplier are silver linings, but alas, it's probably going to be toast against Oz next weekend. Even with strong foreign grosses, it's going to leave Warner Bros in a pool of red.

Identity Thief is still holding well. It's the first $100 million grosser of the year, and easily the biggest bright spot at the box office among the new releases of the last two months.

21 & Over failed to make its mark where Project X did over the same weekend last year.

The Last Exorcism: Part II made less over its entire opening weekend than its predecessor did on its opening day. But that's not particularly surprising; the first movie had a divided reception, and it didn't seem like there was much demand for a sequel.

Snitch held decently. Escape from Planet Earth also held okay, but it's going to get hit hard with the arrival of Oz next weekend.

Safe Haven held better than it did last weekend. It should finish over $70 million.

Silver Linings Playbook continues to post terrific staying power.

A Good Day to Die Hard is crumbling fast. That's not surprising considering that the movie doesn't have much enthusiasm surrounding it, but it's going to be the lowest ticket-seller in franchise history, and by a very, very significant margin.

Dark Skies fell hard, but that was to be expected.

Life of Pi had a very good increase. Like Hugo last year, there's a possibility that it will continue to pull in theatrical business after hitting DVD/Blu-Ray, thanks to the appeal of seeing it on the big screen.

Argo is still nuts.

It's another limp weekend at the box office, but at least Oz appears in line for a huge opening next weekend.

Y'know, I was gonna ask if it was just me who has found the 2013 release slate very unappealing so far. But judging by the box office returns, it's not.

There's just been very little of notable quality or interest so far.

Hoult has such a dumb-looking, blank face, that it's impressive the movie could even scrape up this much. It's not just about not being handsome, Steve Buscemi is ugly as hell but he has a face made for movies. Hoult doesn't.

I find Hoult very handsome, especially in A Single Man.

I didn't think he was attractive until A Single Man. Well, he wasn't bad on Skins, but he was beautiful in A Single Man.

Anyway, the big mistake is on WB for releasing this a flippin' week before Oz. Idiots! Could have had pretty good legs otherwise. Some may even be waiting for Oz to open next weekend as it's not cheap to take a family to the movies so with that a week away they are waiting for the one most would rather see.

After four weeks 21 Jump Street was at $109,413,763. Identity Thief is at $107,433,000 (if estimates hold, either way it should be around that).

I'm not terribly surprised. Seemed to be doing well during the week and the movie is a big crowd-pleaser with strong WOM anyway. Not to mention I'm sure the clips and such at the telecast created some more interest.

I think it can still leg its way to 130m

I believe it will. It's not on DVD until April 30th and should keep holding up decently.

Will Beautiful Creatures even cross 20 Million? Should just make it, but that's a terrible gross. I feel kind of bad for it.

It's a shame. It's actually quite a good movie.

The Best Foreign Language Film win didn't help Amour at all. I really think the film's WoM is not that good.

Even with the film hitting DVD/BluRay, the studio really needs to add at least 150-200 theatres for Life of Pi next weekend. It still has a chance to reach $125 million.

I wonder if Les Misérables can still crawl to $150 million...

I think LM will crawl to $150m in the end or Universal will push it past the mark. It is still doing $500K+ weekend with great drops and needs less than $2.5m now. Might be a crawl but I believe it will make it in the end.

I'm not so sure Les Miserables can do it. Maybe if it gets a second-run theater bump.

Yes the second-run theater bump is what I am counting as well. It will eek out $149m before that for sure (needs a multiplier less than 4 for that) so another $1m or less will not be that big IMO.

I hope ii can get to 20m, will probably catch the film on cable, Safe Haven annihilated any chances the film had at becoming even a moderate hit.
