Possibly only 7 movies making $1+ million next weekend?
Act of Valor and John carter will definitely drop below the mark and given Salmon Fishing's mediocre PTA, it might acually drop just below $1 million too. And that at the beginning of April! When was the last time that happened?

It almost happened this past weekend too, In fact, the past weekend would be weaker for the bottom of the top 10 than next weekend considering Salmon's $1.27m occupied the 7th spot and only got that much because of the expansion.

Another question I have though which might happen this weekend with Journey 2, when was the last time a film spent its first 9 weekends in the Top 10?

Re: Possibly only 7 movies making $1+ million next weekend?
Not sure where you guys know how to start looking for films but I went to take a look at Inception and WOW.
In its final weekend in the top 10, weekend 11 for it overall, 28 releases had premiered in theatres since it opened.
That's fucking epic. Of course, yeah, there was a lot of shit toward the end of August but still impressive.
Others I decided to look up:
Avatar: 14 weekends Return of the King: 10 weekends Shrek 2: 10 weekends The Dark Knight: 10 weekends Sorcerer's Stone: 9 weekends Spider Man: 8 weekends Revenge of the Sith: 8 weekends Toy Story 3: 8 weekends Grinch: 7 weekends Dead Man's Chest: 7 weekends Spider Man 3: 7 weekends Deathly Hallows 2: 5 weekends (lol) I love HP but the current record holder spent 5 weekends in the top 10 LMFAO weak.
edit: I'M AN IDIOT. BOM has a chart. Well, all those I listed are the top of the year since 2000. Journey 2...lol

It's hard to say. Glowing W.O.M. and subsequent incredible endurance are hard to predict. I'm sure many 2012 releases (say, Gravity or Les Misérables or The Great Gatsby) are hoping its in their future, though.

Brave could make it, if it is great Pixar quality.
The Dark Knight Rises could simply due to being huge. The Hobbit is likely.

Going back a bit further to the late 90's, 1997 Titanic 26 1999 Sixth Sense 15 1998 There's Something About Mary 13 (very impressive considering it opened to 13.7M) Most impressive to me was My Big Fat Greek Wedding. That was such a fun run to watch.

That's the one qualification that may hurt a release's chances even if it's great. TDKR... W2: Neighbourhood, SU4, TP result (#1) W3: Bourne, Diary, TR result (#1 or could fall to #2 if one of them breaks out) W4: Campaign, Hope Springs (#3) W5: Timothy, Expendables, Paranorman, Sparkle (#5 or #6) W6: Apparition, Premium Rush (#6) W7: 7500, Lawless, Possession (#7 or #8) W8: nothing (#7) W9: Finding Nemo, Resident Evil, Argo (#10) W10: kicked out depends how strong its legs are but if it opens big enough it has a real shot.

Brave
W2: GI Joe, Brave W3: TASM, Brave W4: IA4, TASM, Ted, GI Joe, Brave W5: TDKR, IA4, TASM, Ted, Brave W6: TDKR, NW, SU4, IA4, TASM, TP, Brave W7: TDKR, Bourne, TR, NW, Diary, IA4, TASM, SU4, TP, Brave W8: Pretty sure it'll be gone by now.
Depends though if it's fantastic I could see it climb over at least 3 of IA4/TASM/SU4/TP which means still in Week 9 it's probably out.

Re: Possibly only 7 movies making $1+ million next weekend?
Here's the lowest 11 8th place weekend numbers since 2002 (made it 11 so March 2012 made the list twice). Looks like we'll make it thrice in a month.
3/30/2012 8 Act of Valor $1,001,906 7/2/2010 8 Get Him to the Greek $1,233,220 6/1/2007 8 Bug $1,286,397 5/18/2007 8 The Invisible $1,300,769 5/21/2004 8 New York Minute $1,302,152 5/19/2006 8 An American Haunting $1,478,785 5/10/2002 8 Ice Age $1,576,006 5/2/2003 8 It Runs in the Family $1,645,115 11/21/2008 8 The Boy in the Striped Pajamas $1,647,514 7/14/2006 8 The Lake House $1,665,485 3/23/2012 8 October Baby (2012) $1,697,130

Umm...so according to the estimates not a single movie made less than $5 million, but more than $1 million. This just looks weird.
