 Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
How much would it make, domestically and worldwide?
I think it would have a shot at making more than SW1's re-release in 1997 with the help of 3D and IMAX, and I could see $300m WW.

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
take the 97 star wars re-release adjust then double and thats titanic when they release in 3-D sometime in the next 10 years. so approx. 450m+ domestically.

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
I didn't think people are as keen to watch older movies again in theaters anymore, unless it's like a cult movie (Nightmare Before Christmas). It'll be very interesting to see how Toy Story 1 & 2 do later this year.

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
Star Wars (reissue) came out just before the DVD and internet boom (or in its infancy). I dont think Titanic would get anywhere near as close. Perhaps $70-$80m for the 3D aspect.

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
Cinephiles will pay anything to see an old movie restored and on the big screen. However, Titanic is not one of those movies, the general movie going public is not going to pay full admission for a movie they can get on Netflix. Paramount could be smart and advertise Titanic 3-D/ IMAX as a bargain ticket, like 4-6 dollars, I think you would see decent buisness with that, at least Ghost of the Abyss buisness.

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
I, for one, would be lined up cash in hand for a Titanic re-release in any theatrical format - - I hate watching movies on my measly 55" home theater - - movies like Titanic are made for the big screen!

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
you only get lightening in a bottle once.
3-D isn't going to make the 3hr flick suddenly get another 400 million in the coffers. I'd be surprised if it made more than 100 domestically. Seriously, who is going to want to re-watch that flick in theatres again just for the 3-D effect?

Shit, I'd see it again in 3D.
It wouldn't make $400m+, that's ridiculous. But around $150-200m? Def.

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
from Time Magazine's article Quote: The lights dim in the screening room. Suddenly, the doomed Titanic fills the screen--but not the way I remember in the movie. The luxury liner is nearly vertical, starting its slide into the black Atlantic, and Leonardo DiCaprio is hanging on for life, just like always. But this time, I am too. The camera pans to the icy water far below, pulling me into the scene--the sensation reminds me of jerking awake from a dream--and I grip the sides of my seat to keep from falling into the drink.
Most of us have seen the top-grossing film of all time. But not like this. The new version, still in production, was remade in digital 3-D, a technology that's finally bringing a true third dimension to movies. Without giving you a headache.
Had digital 3-D been available a dozen or so years ago when he shot Titanic, he'd have used it, director James Cameron tells me later. "But I didn't have it at the time," he says ruefully. "Certainly every film I'm planning to do will be in 3-D."

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
I'd definitely see this, although that's partially cuz I didn't see it in theaters the first time around.
I'm not sure how big it would be, though. I think perception has come full circle now that the backlash has pretty much subsided, but I dunno if it's possible for the $75-100m re-release to return.

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
Titanic is more ET, than Star Wars. It has the record sure, but it would be like if someone rereleased My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Because of 3D I'll say it has a shot at 2nd biggest rerelease ever, which is what Empire Strikes Back and 67 million?

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
the shot of the iceberg would be awesome in 3-d. i think it'd be pretty epic, i'd probably pay full price to see it, seeing as its been a good 10 years since I last viewed.

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
They could probably do a limited IMAX release in some December and then expand wide to regular 3D theaters in January.
