I spent 40 minutes opening an account just to put $35 on it. After Pandya's tweet I almost want to put down more.

I put down $110 (the maximum allowed? don't know why) on it. Pandya's "sources" almost always lowball.

But if he's wrong, he owes me quite a lot of money.

:noway:

This is gonna be the craziest thing to happen to box office in years. Several months ago, many were predicting $160 million total for this movie.

Past odds on megablockbusters:

Jul 15, 2011 11:00 Box Office Opening Weekend Gross: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
145 Million to USD 155 Million +160
155 Million to USD 165 Million +160
145 million or less +175
165 Million or more +350

Box Office Opening Weekend Gross: HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS - PART 1
USD 123 Million to USD 133 Million +150
USD 133 Million to USD 143 Million +150
USD 143 Million or more +200
USD 123 Million or less +400

Box Office Opening Weekend Gross: IRON MAN 2
USD 143 million to USD 153 million +150
USD 153 million to USD 163 million +150
USD 163 million or more +250
USD 143 million or less +300

Box Office Opening Weekend Gross: ALICE IN WONDERLAND
USD 70 million to USD 85 million +150
USD 85 million to USD 95 million +150
USD 95 million or more +225
USD 70 million or less +400

Box Office Opening Weekend Gross: THE DARK KNIGHT
US$130 million to US$145 million +135
US$145 million to US$155 million +135
US$155 million or more +175
US$130 million or less +450

Alice, TDK and DH2 are hopefully the precedents for this, and not IM2. Man we overshot that one.

This one is tricky to predict.

It will be more male-friendly as it's more of an action oriented film with a romance that takes a back seat.

However, that very backseat could alienate the teen-girl fanbase as action oriented fare doesn't usually sit well with them.

I'll go with 135/320

Darn. $160m is a stretch at this point. It's not OUT (since Hunger Games is a pretty crazy film to predict, who knows?) but it's not looking great.

Which is possible. Considering how it's attracting all audiences and Spring Break, I think it could have a nice drop.

160m would require a REALLY strong Sunday drop. Like sub-20% drop.

Or a REALLY strong Saturday hold, which would in turn naturally push business to Sunday, naturally making for a better hold. It could go:

Fri - $68.25 million
Sat - $52 million
Sun - $40 million

And just get over the mark. We have had six movies reach that Saturday mark when adjusted for inflation and eight movies make the Sunday mark adjusted, so it's not impossible...just really really freaking hard.

But damn I hope it makes it.
