Re: The Hunger Games - $19.75 At Midnight.
That's still really good and points to at least a $65M OD, maybe $68-70M. It can still break $150M for the weekend.

So what happened to those monster sellout numbers from Fandango and Movietickets?

Hm, Variety really overcalled it, that's unusual for them.
Still, that nearly triples the original non-sequel record and still indicates a weekend that should top Alice's March and non-sequel OW records. Excellent number even if we overestimated it.

Re: The Hunger Games - $19.75 At Midnight
Yeah there is nothing wrong with those numbers. It's still the biggest midnight number EVER for a non sequel film and it could still be on track for $60M OD. I just think alot of people on here fell victim to the media hype machine. Although non of the early sellouts here indicated it was anywhere close to Twilight/HP levels.

Re: The Hunger Games - $19.75 At Midnight
Considering it is March, it's a non-sequel and we have absolutely NO idea how this is going to play throughout the day/weekend in general, this is HUGE. It's still on track for a massive, massive opening and the word of mouth seems to be glowing thus far.

Perfectly fine midnight #. Think Iron Man 2 got $7.5m midnight, but then $44m on Friday w/o midnight on its way to $128m.
I think Friday total to be in the 60-70m range.

I think Friday total to be in the 60-70m range. Yeah, I would have to assume that Friday is 40+ million considering all of the sellouts.

Good numbers, does anyone know if the Derby includes the midnight number or not for the opening day?

Towers over Jan-Apr Alice midnight record of 5m. Obliterates Twilight's non-sequel midnight record of 7m. 4rd highest non-summer midnights 7th highest midnights of all time behind Twi and HP sequels.
Extremely impressive.

Leaving aside the overly optimistic "30M!" cries, that's still a phenomenal number.

Extremely impressive. Don't forget biggest midnight number for Lionsgate! It broke Saw 3D's $1.7 million record.

It had to work hard for that record.
