That's great for TDKR. Maybe it can improve...

If estimates drop (which could very well happen, particularly with these numbers), it might fall below The Dark Knight unadjusted. Very close. Let's hope not, though.

While we are all disappointed with TDKR we also have to remember the holdovers. Ice Age was struck really hard this weekend and it might not reach $160m if it does not see a minor increase next weekend. TASM is down almost 70% this weekend.
Holdovers are suffering by not only the on-slaught of TDKR but the side effects of the shooting. This is turning out to be one of the worst weekends to follow, nothing and I say NOTHING feels interesting to track. Hope next weekend brings up some spark to BO.

BTW the casual viewers at BOM (not following BO really strictly) would be really confused at this time or they might be thinking that BOM has crashed again

I would fear for the world if the effect of this shooting lasted longer than the weekend. Well cinemas here were fine as everywhere else in the world probably is but I don't see the rationale outside Aurora to be fearful of going to the movies. Even then it's not fear but trauma and sorrow that would prevent Aurora-folk from returning. It's not as if James whatshisname is hiding behind every seat or corner. Also for a purported Big Brother state they sure failed to detect this fellow ordering 50 suspicious packages. It's awfully hard to type using a phone do I'm done for now, hope to see movies recover and have openers unaffected when I get back.

I think the tone of the film does not help either...

woah! What a drop for Ice Age. That Sunday can't be right.
If it is right than I think the dark tone of Ice Age is the reason for the big drop. Fox should donate money to the families of the mammoths that were killed.

I do not think its silly to say that with the shooting and the dark themes that some people decided not to watch the film.

Yeah but everything took a big hit. Fear wins the weekend.

100% agreed that some people decided to stay away from the theaters because of the shooting, but I do not believe only the "dark" films were impacted.

yeah I agree the shooting had a bigger impact but I know some people who said that it was a sombre film and with what happened.. They wanted to stay away.

I knew someone who saw it Saturday but he said he was hesitant to go because of the incident. I told him that was crazy, but I guess alot of people thought that way. Maybe the film will have lower than normal drops for it's future weekends as people go back to normal moviegoing habits.

Perhaps with the shooting, it made an already dark film even darker.
I think TDK is actually more darker and sadder due to the tale of Harvey Dent... It pretty much was like ESB.
but this film was way more dark for me...

Terrible for TDKR. Though that Sunday drop is pretty good. Maybe it will have pretty good legs and a multiplier over 3.0? Or maybe not.

Well all will be okay now since theaters start to ban costumes from their showing. Meanwhile guns are still perfectly legal. Only in the USA...

I wonder ... If the massacre was in a supermarket, people would stop eating? Some people are in some cases simply stupid.
