I'm kind of surprised Potter didn't achieve this last year and was in 80 less theaters than Half-Blood Prince (4455).
I think we'll see the barrier broken though this year by at least The Dark Knight Rises with say 4520. I can't see The Avengers doing it. Breaking Dawn: Part 2 might but it'll probably be more around 4300-4325. The Hobbit will at least break 4000.

With the lack of movies in March I think that Hunger Games might have a chance. In HR article they said that the movie will open in 4000+ theaters and they knew that in January.
