Post Final Destination 5 under Insidious domestic total club
I haven't heard much excitement for it as much as the 4th one. It might be able to open in the 20s but I can't see it opening much past $25m and it has competition with 3 weekends in a row with Fright Night (3-D screens), Conan, another horror movie the following weekend, and Shark Night 3D. Who's in?

Not in, but I certainly think it's very possible. (Competition-wise, though, Conan and Shark Night are going to be total non-factors.)

Conan has nearly the same audience as FD5 and although PG-13, Shark Night is also horror. There hasn't been a PG-13 horror movie since Insidious in the marketplace. Other than that, I agree with you Dark Shape.

Conan features a no-name lead and is tracking terribly, and Shark Night both looks awful and is awful. Neither will make money.

I do agree about Shark Night now, after watching the trailer. If FD4 had good WOM like the first three, FD5 would open similar to $30m. I think Warner Bros should've released in January and The Rite would've done better in August (Exorcist 4 had opened close to $20m in 2004).

In.

I think the positive buzz surrounding Apes will limit the upside of FD5's opening.

It wouldn't have been done in January. I went to a test screening in April and a large number of FX were still unfinished.

I do think The Final Destination is what's holding it back. Audiences like FD1-3, so they kept building. But TFD sort of sucked away all of the franchise's forward momentum.

Regardless of what release date, it can't open higher than $25m, due to the 4th one having pathetic WOM. A lot of my friends on their facebook statuses (I have 1,000+ friends) said something like, "Why is there a 5th destination coming out?". 2 years ago, a lot of my friends were excited about the 4th one, yet they said it would be a stupid idea to make a 5th one since a lot of my friends hated the 4th one so much.

To be fair, that happens with just about every horror sequel. I saw the PA3 trailer in theaters and it got a ton of "Ohmygod, another one?" reactions, but it's still gonna make a ton of money. I saw the Saw V trailer laughed off the screen, but it still opened to $30m.

We haven't had a Horror Movie come out for awhile now that I remember but I think Fright Night might benefit out of all the horror movies coming out this august. Although I hope Don't be afraid of the Dark does well.

Yep, no way this goes past 54m total.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

Just to be clear, by predicting it to go sub-54m you're anticipating it to be the least attended of the franchise, when the last film easily bettered both previous sequels.

Competition is tough, there are a lot of horror movies coming in next three weeks so the legs might not stabilize (if any at all :P), still though this should be one of the biggest openers in horror so I see it crossing $54m and 3D for this movie might do well (though I don't bet on it).

The only real competition I see for FD5 is Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark which has the best marketing out of any of the horror films coming out this month.

So according to MTC/RS it should open to $21m-$23m and if it out opens tracking like the last one it should be close to $27m. The last movie had multiplier of 2.4 so with that projection it should make $55m-$64m. I'd say it will end somewhere in between that mark for $60m

Can I ask you something?? How the hell do you supposedly get into all these screenings, test screenings, whatever??? Everyone says they go to these test screenings and unless your someone really important in the film business, then I tend to think your full of it..

Uh, you get invited. Sometimes by e-mail, but more often if you're out at a particular L.A. theater, someone will be outside handing out test screening invites. I was at the screening of Fast Five and while in line got invited to both The Change-Up and Immortals.

This looks like a great success if the early numbers are true.
