Rise of the Planet of the Apes > Cowboys & Aliens - VICTORY!
Yeah, I never make clubs, but I figured I'd try one.
Neither of these films look that appealing, but I think Cowboys & Aliens has become less and less so with its gradually annoying trailers attached to every film over the past few months, each of which looks worse than the last. Plus most people just think of it as a joke. I just don't see it breaking out to the extent people were thinking not so long ago.
On the other hand, Apes has been looking better and better with each trailer, and I think the marketing is enough to overcome the cumbersome title and general feeling of malaise about another Apes sequel. James Franco may think it's crap, but I don't think that'll be enough to sink the film. Who cares what that asshole thinks anyway.
So, who's in?

In. I'm looking forward to Cowboys & Aliens, but I've never seen the trailers get a positive reaction, and they seem to be getting less interesting with each new one released.

Re: Rise of the Planet of the Apes > Cowboys & Aliens
As I've already said, C&A is based on a very stupid shitty comic book, which raises the stakes for it to be a complete waste. But sadly, the crowd might eat it up for the high concept and stars involved.

Re: Rise of the Planet of the Apes > Cowboys & Aliens
C&A probably opens to right around $40 mil. Apes probably around $30 mil.

Obviously in. I've been on the Apes bandwagon for awhile now. We need to throw Franco off so he doesn't sabotage it anymore. "No ticket"

Re: Rise of the Planet of the Apes > Cowboys & Aliens
Yeah this looks like a good bet. C&A is a Western and those rarely do very well. Rise of the Planet of the Apes is getting great marketing and has a huge built in fase base. Doesn't the Tim Burton film adjust to 90 million or so?

I predicted Apes to gross half of C&A's gross, but Fox's marketing has just been much more exciting and frankly, competent than Universal's. No surprise there, I guess.

I don't really know anything about Cowboys & Aliens, but I'm certainly impressed with the FX from Rise of the Apes enough to join this club.. One can only hope Franco hasn't ruined this films chance at making a few bucks$$$$$$

People love these Apes films. The 2001 opened at a near record which amazed me at the time.

I'm actually surprised at the number of people interested in Apes. It should be a nice hit.
BUT...I'm out.

I'm surprised they remade Wild Wild West so soon - - it's going to be a real treat to watch Cowboys & Aliens flop like a dying fish!
