Early Wednesday Numbers
http://www.deadline.com/2011/06/transfo ... d-tuesday/Quote: Right now, the Michael Bay 3D actioner could hit $40M today, which will include the $13.5M from Tuesday's pre-midnight 3D sneaks and Wednesday's midnight screenings. That would be outrageously, hilariously awful. EDIT: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/box-office-report-michael-bays-206990Quote: Paramount’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon is expected to gross north of $35 million in its first full day of play at the domestic box office, giving it the best opening day gross of 2011.

Re: Early Friday Numbers
WOW! I never thought the first big openning of the year would be so dissapointing, but early signs were pointing to this.

Re: Early Friday Numbers
I hope it does NOT include Tuesday previews. If it does, though, I guess maybe $150 million over 6-days and $250-275 million total?

Re: Early Friday Numbers
Why are we accepting an Early Friday #'s thread on Wednesday? Change the title to Wed maybe.
I think Wed will be higher than 40m.

That would actually be a VERY good number for FRIDAY.

Nikki now says That $40m DOES NOT include Tuesday. That's better, but still not great.

That's exactly what I predicted; gloating! Nah, not really. We'll see the rest of the daily patterns.

Re: Early Wednesday Numbers
overseas looks like it will save the film. Should get 60-80 million extra from SK and China alone

Nikki now says That $40m DOES NOT include Tuesday. That's better, but still not great. Still pretty mediocre. If you roll the previews and Wednesday together, that is $45.5m and a 27% drop from TF2's opening day. That is despite 2 years of inflation and 3D prices.

Re: Early Wednesday Numbers
At least with an opening day of $45/46 million, a total of $300 million is doable.
Transformers 2 definitely left a bad impression on audiences.

Re: Early Wednesday Numbers
so, so disappointing it has to beat TF2's 60.6m opening day

Re: Early Wednesday Numbers
It's also pretty bad when you compare it to Spider-Man 2 which opened to about the same amount, but sold WAY more in admissions and tickets sales and $40M was the biggest openning day ever back then. Also that movie didn't have any 3D screens or Imax. The sub par theatre count didn't do it any favors either.

Re: Early Wednesday Numbers
Shawn's blog brings up a great point that this film is facing fatigue from both 3D and for the franchise itself. Fast Five and The Hangover Part 2 illustrate clearly how audiences are thinking of at least 3D.

Re: Early Wednesday Numbers
Why does everyone have a Kermit avatar now?
And this movie definitely had its work cut out for it a bit, but it seems like coulda been better, coulda been worse. Midweek openings always confuse me so I'll reserve judgment until later in the weekend.

From who I follow on Twitter (Athletes, College kids) It seems that everyone is going to see this and so far the WOM is very positive.

This is less admissions than the first film made on a Tuesday; there is no justification for how that is just "underwhelming."
