Re: Early Friday Numbers 24th June 2011
Nikki has updated Bad Teacher's Friday to be $12m. Not a big suprise considering the solid amount of late night sellouts, but legs will be really interesting see. Either way this will be another MAJOR win for Sony as they will have another big R rated comedy hit under there belt. Then again this is the same studio that made big hits out of movies like Superbad and Pineapple Express, so it ain't too suprising.

Re: Early Friday Numbers 24th June 2011
28 million would be much better than earlier numbers for Cars 2. TS3 multiplier would put it at 75 but since it is the first sequel rather than the second, it could potentially flirt with 80 million.

Re: Early Friday Numbers 24th June 2011
This is shaping to be a very good weekend. Not only did the openers over-perform that would be great hold for MPP in face of Cars 2 and okish for GL. Rest of the holdovers are also very impressive if these numbers hold true.

Ouch for Bad Teacher. Awful score for a mainstream/broad comedy.

Re: Early Friday Numbers 24th June 2011
Yep that's a terrible cinemascore for BT, but it's consistant with some of the early WOM I have been hearing which is that they pretty much showed the best parts of the movie in the trailer. I still want to see it, but it really doesn't sound like it it lived up to the expectations and the overexposure got the best of most people.

It just got faced with the most direct competition yet, and it drops less than 25%? This film's run has to be the most impressive of the year so far for me.

Cars 2 - 25
WoM will kill its unfair Rotten Tomatoes Score !!!! Not every pixar film needs to be about sadness, they took a break to make something fun and before criticize watch the film first

Re: Early Friday Numbers 24th June 2011
This is shaping up to be a pretty epic weekend. Cars 2 looks like it's going to hit my $75M prediction despite the less than stellar critical reception. Bad Teacher has certainly overperformed, although the C+ CinemaScore probably indicates it won't have a ton of staying power. Still, very impressive showing.
And the holdovers held up really well too, at least according to Nikki's early digits. Particularly Mr. Popper's Penguins and Bridesmaids in the face of strong direct competition.
THR's article also says this weekend could be up 40% from the 2010 weekend. Nice.

Re: Early Friday Numbers 24th June 2011
With $25m, Cars 2 would come in around $68m for the weekend.
Very surprising for Bad Teacher. I actually had a lot of interest in it until I got the feeling the funniest parts were in the commercials. Guess others didn't feel the same.

From giteshpandya - #Cars2 opens to $25.7M FRI, heading for $70M wknd. Pixar & Cars brands trump bad reviews.

Re: Early Friday Numbers 24th June 2011
Wow, that's awesome for both. Using Toy Story's multiplier last summer, it'd be $69m, though that might have been more frontloaded. But that also had the Father's Day effect on Sunday. So $69-70m sounds right, which is great.
Bad Teacher's number is awesome.

Re: Early Friday Numbers 24th June 2011
There was an article last night stating that Bad Teacher's tracking spiked. I wonder what the catalyst was for that? All of the ads were pretty much the same, although they were everywhere.

Re: Early Friday Numbers 24th June 2011
We tend to almost always overestimate the IMs for Pixar movies, but I really think this'll have a better Saturday drop/rise than at least TS3 and Wall-E, mostly because it really seems likely that the normal adult adult audience for Pixar won't bother with this, initially at least. I wonder if it could even match the original's increase (18%), especially since an A- would indicate the audience going out doesn't care much for the reviews.
Of course now this means it'll drop like 15%, but whatever. It's still in for a good weekend. And really good for Bad Teacher too. And I'll be majorly impressed if Bridesmaids holds that well with its most direct competition yet. What a beast.

Re: Early Friday Numbers 24th June 2011
While its hardly a surprise Nikki updated the openers as well with $25.7 Cars 2 and $12.1 Bad Teacher.
Popper's Penguins held very very well in face of Cars 2 and with good WOM there is a slight chance for $90m total...though nothing is sure yet. I am surprised that Bridesmaids is holding so well, so is Pirates, I thought it would do well but 22% drop is great. X-Men FC still seems to be mimicking the X-Men with the difference of first week total.
A HUGE weekend overall including the holdovers....wonder how long this will last, Transformers is almost out of the gate now, so this is a very good news for it.
