Screen Counts and Crowd Reports for July 29-31
people are talking, talking 'bout people, I hear them whisper, you won't believe it, they think we're lovers kept undercover, I just ignore it but they keep saying we laugh just a little too loud, we stand just a little too close, we stare just a little too long, maybe they're seeing something we don't darlin', let's give them something to talk about.

Only if it's crazy and stupid, like a love triangle involving a cowboy, alien, and smurf.

I think The Smurfs would look more appealing if it switched plots with Cowboys & Aliens. Or maybe Armageddon.

Top selling movies on Fandango as of today at 10am: The Smurfs - 18% of sales, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 - 14%, Cowboys & Aliens - 12%, Captain America - 8%, Crazy Stupid Love - 3%
Smurfs are in fairly good shape.

Smurfs are in fairly good shape. That does seem really good. What were Kung Fu Panda and other recent kids movies at the day before their release? It's looking like a Smurfs breakout.

I could easily see Smurfs being another Alvin.

Only thing that could keep Smurfs from Alvin is the theater count. Tracking looks to be low on it, though.

Re: Screen Counts and Crowd Reports for July 29-31
Smurfs is almost guranteed to breakout this weekend. Not only because of the solid online sales, but also the twitter buzz for it is unusally strong for a family friendly flick. It's been kicking C&A and CSL asses all week and has already pulled in close to 5000 tweets today alone. It may not do Alvin numbers, but $30M+ is looking real good right now.

Re: Screen Counts and Crowd Reports for July 29-31
It won't top Alvin, but I could see $35-40m and possibly more than C&A.

AMC Century City is part of a shopping mall. CSL has a better chance of selling out there than just about anywhere else.

Re: Screen Counts and Crowd Reports for July 29-31
Fandango sales seem solid for CSL. I think that percentage is higher than what Bad Teacher had. Not saying it's going to open that high but at least 20 Million seems like a good bet for sure.

Re: Screen Counts and Crowd Reports for July 29-31
I'm too lazy to look up screenings and they're usually at inconvenient times for me to go with other people. I go to the movies alone maybe once a year...so I pretty much wouldn't even want to go anyway.

Re: Screen Counts and Crowd Reports for July 29-31
From Notfabio on hsx Quote: smurfs is currently double the nationwide gross of cowboys definitely going to outdo mtc even if it tanks at night and yes it's early notfabio on Jul 29, 10:46
attack has not sold huge so far in advance but is doing 1.5k per theatre already so not a buried situation at least {nm} notfabio on Jul 29, 10:48
Cowboys and Aliens midnights did pretty terrible compared to Summer blockbusters, only 10% of Captain America at usual less than 800K natl {nm} notfabio on Jul 29, 10:00 Even less than TRUE GRIT at usual megaplex {nm}
Crazy Stupid Love at Usual Megaplex did 70% of the attendance at midnight {nm} notfabio on Jul 29, 10:05 Basically it means that Cowboys are tanking and Smurfs are doing pretty good. Too early to say anything about Love.

Re: Screen Counts and Crowd Reports for July 29-31
That doesn't necessarily mean Cowboys is tanking. It could come on very strong at night. It probably DOES mean The Smurfs is doing very well.

This was bound to happen. I heard a lot of people talking about Smurfs than Cowboys and Aliens.

Re: Screen Counts and Crowd Reports for July 29-31
Interesting results for Cowboys, but it should play better later in the day. However, this does give you a good idea of just how limited the appeal of this movie is. I mean less than TG at the peak of summer movie season is pretty bad and this movie should have definitely had more of a fanboy rush factor considering it was BIG on twittter last night and the premise is very fanboy friendly.

Sorry, but total pet peeve of mine (misspelled words repeatedly...my issue, not yours). "Definitely."

Re: Screen Counts and Crowd Reports for July 29-31
Saw Cowboys & Aliens at 3:20pm. Trailers included The Three Musketeers, Conan the Barbarian, Final Destination 5, and Moneyball.
Theatre was around half full. -Definitely- an older crowd. Lots of 40+ couples, with only a few teens. Fairly muted response to the film. A few laughs here and there. No applause at the end (which is quite common here).
I dug the film in general, with a couple reservations, but I don't see it becoming a W.O.M. favorite.
