 Re: Hangover/KFP2 OD - Nikki
Good number for Hangover 2. I thought KFP 2 would do better than that given that it's in 3D. I don't buy that KFP 2 will only make 50m for the 3-day weekend. It should make around 60-70m.

 Re: Hangover/KFP2 OD - Nikki
I predicted an 11 Million Thursday for KFP2. Guess that isn't happening. Should certainly see a large increase over the weekend though.
That number for The Hangover is really disappointing since it includes midnights. I guess Nikki was right about a 20 Million Thursday.

Its a Thursday guys, these films will do well over the 5-days. Panda is on the low side, but again its Thursday. If anything 3D is now hurting films BO.

 Re: Hangover/KFP2 OD - Nikki
Even if it is Thursday The Hangover should have been able to do better. Looks like it might be extremely front-loaded.

 Re: Hangover/KFP2 OD - Nikki
I know about May, kids still in school, Shrek 2, blah blah blah, but $6 million is STILL lower than I would have imagined it'd get. It'll have a great increase today, but realistically I can't see more than 150% and that would still be "just" $15 million.

I still wouldn't be shocked if the # for Thursday is a few million bigger than this estimate.

 Re: Hangover/KFP2 OD - Nikki
Wow looks like Panda2 could be on the way to $65-70m for 5-day which TH2 will make in almost 2 days. If that really happens then it will be disappointing for KFP2 no matter what and HUGE win for tracking

 Re: Hangover/KFP2 OD - Nikki
It sure does.
Even if PANDA 2 opens a bit soft it really doesn't have much competition until CARS 2 so it will have great legs.

They somehow think that $6m OD for KFP2 is solid

Didn't one of the Shreks open relatively mildly on a weekday, then the weekend came and it EXPLODED?

 Re: Hangover/KFP2 OD - Nikki
So TH2 also got an A- cinemascore according to Nikki. WOM should be pretty strong indeed, but I wonder how much it will decrease today. I don't see it dropping too much considering alot of people will play catch up today. I might even see it if I have the time.

Gunslinger wrote: Didn't one of the Shreks open relatively mildly on a weekday, then the weekend came and it EXPLODED? Yes. Kung Fu Panda's opening day being slammed as "disappointing" brings back vivid memories of Shrek 2, where the exact same thing happened. Granted, the opening day is supposedly about half of Shrek 2's Wednesday debut, but still. Don't count it out yet.

Well, to be fair, we don't know yet whether the exact same thing will happen (even though I think it is likely)...

 Re: Hangover/KFP2 OD - Nikki
I dont know why the Shrek 2 example is pooh poohed - its very valid.
KFP2 will rebound nicely. Sure it probably wont go over $100m but its still good.
TH2 is on track for a HUGE weekend. It wont be that frontloaded because its main audience isnt teens.

 Re: Hangover/KFP2 OD - Nikki
Hangover also has the fact that it's likely to sell out late shows (i.e. 10-11-midnight) working in its favor, which means whatever early estimates come in are probably low.

I'm really hoping for a Shrek 2 rebound for Panda 2 and I think it can manage that.

KFP2's release date was set months ago. Plus just bcos something crazy happened long back does not mean it will keep happening again. Plus CGI flicks are not as niche as they were in 2004. Shrek 2 had no competition at all. Now we had 4 CGI flicks in spring and few more releasing in summer.

WB's official Thursday estimate for Hangover II is $31.66 million. So, $21.3M without the midnight number added in. http://twitter.com/#!/giteshpandya

 Re: Hangover/KFP2 OD - Nikki
I would say a 100% Fri Increase for KFP2 is about right. That would be the increase for Shrek 2 if it had opened Thu and 2/3 of its Wed+Thu gross had been on Thu. Then a 50% Sat increase.
In Hangover news:
"Fandango reports that 'The Hangover Part II' boasts the top pre-sales and opening day ticket sales for any comedy in the company's 11-year history."
