That's ok for Source Code. I wish it would of been higher.

Re: Nikki's Early Firday Numbers (Apr 1-3)
She said conservative, I could easily see friday being 6.5 and the weekend 18m or so which would be very solid. If reviews translate to WOM it could definitely still targed 60m+. I haven't seen official budget numbers but it's rumored around 35-40m so this is not a bad performance at all considering overflow of adult oriented sci-fi fare around.

Re: Nikki's Early Firday Numbers (Apr 1-3)
I think Source Code should have legs. The movie was damn good and some of the audience clapped at the end.
I predicted a $16M opening and it looks like it will be near that. A solid opening for sure, considering the recent onslaught of adult thrillers and the low budget.

If it opens to 30m+ someone has to explain to me how it did so.
WTF is this? Doesn't look any different to Shaggy Dog or whatever.

Re: Nikki's Early Firday Numbers (Apr 1-3)
The Hollywood Reporter has updated it's numbers: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/f ... hop-174029 Key facts from updated figures: "Universal's family Easter pic Hop over performed in its domestic box office debut, grossing north of $11 million on Friday and putting it on track to earn at least $35 million, if not more, for the weekend." "Preliminary estimates showed Source Code grossing $5 million on Friday , giving it a good shot at opening in the $14 million to $15 million range for the weekend." "Insidious wasn’t far behind, grossing between $4 million and $4.5 million in a better-than-expected start. The film could jump the $10 million mark for the weekend, a big financial win for FilmDistrict, since the horror-thriller was an acquisition. The movie was produced by Jason Blum of the Paranormal Activity franchise, and directed by James Wan." Other numbers are discussed too.. giving us a top 5 like this for friday: TW LW Movie - Frid (WE Est) / Total After weekend 1. NEW Hop - $11m (35m+) / $35m 2. NEW Source Code - $5m (15m) / $15m 3. NEW Insidious - $4m (10m+) / $10m 4. -1- Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules - $2.9m (-60%) (10.3m) / 38.5m 5. -3- Limitless - $2.9m (-35%) (9.6m) / $55.6m 6. -4- The Lincoln Lawyer - 1.7m (-30%) (6.1m) / 38.7m

Re: Nikki's Early Firday Numbers (Apr 1-3)
children haven´t had a really appealing kids flik since G&J, (MNM & Rango didn´t look like kiddie films, one failed & and the other one was too adult for them) Hop´s overperformance was pretty obvious
wonder know Rio´s OW .... lower or higher than Hop

The winners of the weekend, again, are Limitless and The Lincoln Lawyer.

Re: Nikki's Early Firday Numbers (Apr 1-3)
Updated first post with Top 10 from Nikki.
Box office seems to be surging now. Not only did the openers do better than expected, the holdovers are doing great as well specially Limitless and The Lincoln Lawyer when facing a tough competition from Source Code. These two seem to have won the leggy run which was expected from Unknown and TAB.

Re: Nikki's Early Firday Numbers (Apr 1-3)
Superb for Hop. Also solid for Source Code and Insidious considering their low budgets.
Wimpy Kid took a big hit but that's not a surprise considering the original was frontloaded and the competition from Hop. Also, a 74% drop for Sucker Punch? Alarming. Limitless and The Lincoln Lawyer once again held extremely well, though.
This weekend will, of course, still be down from last year (which is an unfair comparison since the first April frame of 2010 was Easter), but I sense the tide might be turning!

I see this as great news for Rio, actually. Audiences are returning to theaters and Rio looks like the much better film. Definitlely thinking $50m+ OW is possible.

Re: Nikki's Early Firday Numbers (Apr 1-3)
I knew HOP would breakout. The marketing was phenomenal and it's dry out there for BIG family films. It easily took advantage of that and became a mini blockbuster of it's own. Solid results for Insidious and Source Code too. Also WOW! SP completely tanked this weekend and with that kind of drop off it looks like it will struggle even getting to $40M. Warner Bros. can't be too happy right now.

Re: Nikki's Early Firday Numbers (Apr 1-3)
Hop could potentially get to $150 m if it pulls a $40 m + opening, especially with an Easter bump later in April. It's a phenomenal number.
With Scream potentially doing $60 m + and Fast 5 potentially getting to $80 m +, a Madea movie with $30 m + potential, and Rio still set, April looks like it will be a complete turnaround.
There are also 16 movies this year compared to last year's 12, which will help out as well...
April potentially may see 3 or 4 $150 m + films as a best case scenario...
You know what this means, a cartoon Leprechaun's origins will be a CGI animated movie next St. Patrick's Day...
Universal looks to have their best box office month in ages, with Hop and Fast 5! They could be at $500 m for the year just from holdovers and Jan-Apr. releases...

Re: Nikki's Early Firday Numbers (Apr 1-3)
So Hop follows Despicable Me and the Alvin movies in sheer defiance of tracking expectations.
I think the recent ads have been successful at downplaying the live action in favor of the colorful animated spectacle and cute characters. Bright and cute and cuddly have been largely missing in an animated film for awhile. Agree with O - expect every holiday to get the hyper-cute animated-live-action treatment now.

I've noticed that in the ads too. Several of them barely show the rabbit at all. One common denominator in the Chipmunk and Hop ads: eating poop is huge.

Re: Nikki's Early Firday Numbers (Apr 1-3)
The box office rankings are interesting this weekend. There are a lot of many movies from smaller studios. It's strange seeing only Universal and Fox have movies in the top 6 this weekend.
1 Universal 2 Summit 3 FilmDistrict 4 Relativity 5 Fox 6 Lionsgate 7 WB 8 Universal 9 Paramount 10 Sony 11 Universal 12 WB 13 Weinstein Company 14 Focus Features 15 Fox Searchlight 16 CBS Films

Re: Nikki's Early Firday Numbers (Apr 1-3)
I like how BOM is accounting The King's Speech's PG-13 release on its page.
With it only making $350,000 on Friday in 1,000 theaters, it's gonna make less than last weekend, proving that this ridiculous PG-13 release was going to be a bust. I wonder how much they spent on that TV advertising the past two weeks.

Especially this late.

Hop had two selling points: Makers of Despicable Me and Bunnies shitting jelly beans. Quite an awesome number.
