Easily Super 8. Its put itself out there as a major summer contender. Its a throwback to a previous era which is what JJ planned and I think it will diferentiate itself from the summer superhero pics and sequels.

Transformer also seemed to have converted the doubters and this will help it.

Missed opportunity for Captain America.

Cowboys & Aliens does frighten me a bit, in regards to general audiences. I'm afraid people will perceive it as a Snakes on a Plane type lark. The title ALWAYS gets big laughs with an audience. And it is a funny title. But I hope people realize there's more to the recipe than smirking.

Super 8, definitely. It was very..."Whoa," right? It made you pause.

The Transformers one just did what every piece of Transformers advertising has always done. The big money shot at the end felt incredibly routine.

I'm surprised they sprung for a Limitless spot during the game. Maybe Focus should've bought one for The Eagle...maybe not. ;)

Yeah Super 8 definitely. This could be a $200M film.

If it breaks out huge though, the tide will definitely take a huge turn when it comes to the Fanning sisters. Though it looks like Elle is going down the right path whereas Dakota, ehh not so much in her choices.

Super 8 has the feel of a classic blockbuster in a summer overrun with assembly-line superhero movies and sequels galore. The footage...the Rockwellian childhood innocence, the almost Cold War-esque paranoia (the military), the suggestion of supernatural mystery/terror/wonder unfolding in a small town. Spielberg's name is on it, and it conjures the feeling of his films in the '70s and '80s. The wondrous, -big- feeling you won't find in, say, Fast Five or Captain America.

Super 8 looks good and all but that spot seemed to throw alot of people off. I guess they were expecting more of a Cloverfield monster mash kind of thing, but I really digg the whole E.T/ Close Encounters vibe this movie has going. It proves that this thing will be more about characters and story than your typical alien/ disaster flick and thats signature Speilberg right there. As for the best SB spots besides Super 8 I personally really liked the spots for Cowboys And Aliens, Fast Five and Captain America.

I thought Rango was great and I liked Thor better than Captain America. For general audiences, I think the reactions for Super 8 and Cowboys & Aliens were "what?". I thought the Fast Five ad was standard but effective.

Super 8 and Transformers 3

Answer: Battle Los Angeles

It played well, it played frequently, it appeals strongly to the target audience. I somehow missed the Super 8 AND Captain America spots. The Thor spot looked terrible.

This is the only site, I shit you not, that's dumnped on the CAPTAIN AMERICA TV Spot and it looked fucking fantastic right down to Hugo Weaving peeling his face off to reveal the RED SKULL.. Not sure what the hell you were all expecting for a 30 sec teaser but it sure was miles better than HULK 2003 when it debuted at the Super Bowl.. CAPTAIN AMERICA will be the 2011 summer winner by a long shot just because how beautifully MARVEL has marketed this...

Don't get me wrong

Hugo as the Red Skull looks great and all but there are more things we need from this movie. We can't judge how a movie is just based on a 30 sec TV Spot we need another longer trailer to get a fill for it.

Transformers was the best. Super 8, Cap, Cowboys, and Rango were impressive too. Problem is that I already wanted to see all those movies. The one that sold me was Limitless, which I was completely unaware of before the night began.

Your article reeks of such over skepticism that I'm going to revert back to this when CA opens big, much bigger than you think.. I still find it fascinating that KJ is truly the only site on the internet, movie forum wise, that's poo hoo'd about it while received in a much more positive light elsewhere..

I'm disturbed that I find myself (somewhat) in agreement with BKB.

CAPTAIN AMERICA needed to do two things: reassure diehard fans that, costume changes and casting questions aside, it'll be relatively faithful to the concept of Captain America. And two, to let the rest of America (99% of everyone else out there), know that there was actually going to be a Captain America movie. I think it succeeded on both counts: it looks refreshingly old-school -- Indiana Jones-lite, just how it should be. Conceptually, this project has always been in Joe Johnson's wheelhouse; he's not a great director but he's solidly competent at genre stuff, and if he can deliver something along the lines of an updated version of THE ROCKETEER, then I think he'll have a big success on his hands.

I don't think CA is gonna break out like IRON MAN did, btw -- it doesn't have the huge star power of a Robert Downey Jr. But it should be able to hit FF/WOLVERINE levels.

So is this the new thing now, to make absolute certain that if you remotely agree with me about something, that you have to put it in some dumb disclaimer for fear of KJ posters not liking you??? Really??? :funny: You know folks?? There are alot of things I do know and don't get near enough credit for it cause it's ME, but I find it so hypocritical that 95% of KJ are DC Comic whores over MARVEL and that once again, if any of this were related to a JLA movie being made, right down to the setup a year in advance, you'd be FAP FAP FAPPING little johnny behind the ears over it..

Like...if the whole world is divided into people in the tank for DC or in the tank for Marvel, it'd be cool if there was someone representing Dark Horse...

Hmm. I'm still not so sure SUPER 8 is the clear winner. Nobody I watched the game with seemed all that impressed by it. I really don't know what film I'd say would be helped out the most, but I think BATTLE: LOS ANGELES may have went over really well.

The ones for THOR and CAPTAIN AMERICA sucked. I'm sure TRANSFORMERS went over really well but that was already going to be a big hit.

I missed these ones:

Hopefully this will help THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU. Looks like a great flick. DRIVE ANGRY looks really fun too so I'm rooting for that to do well.

The Limitless spot was pretty bad. The initial idea is good, but it was missing something crucial: Conflict. As far as I could see, it was a movie about guy having fun and succeeding in everything he does. Which is pretty boring.

Limitless annoys me.

I hate the tagline on the poster: "What if a pill could make you rich and powerful?" How...blunt.

The whole idea is just grating. Two hours of Bradley Cooper being smarmy and 'cool.'
