Post BIGGEST 3-DAY OPENING WEEKEND, Friday to Sunday - 2011
2011 will be here soon. It's going to be a huge year, jam packed with some juggernaut opening weekends.

It's time to make your list on which films you think will have the biggest 3-day opening weekend, Friday to Sunday, for 2011.

With your 1) being the biggest 3 day opening of the year -- 2) being second biggest and so on...

1)Transformers: Dark of the Moon - July 1
2)Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides - May 20
3)The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 - November 18
4)Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 - July 15
5)X-Men: First Class - June 3
6)Captain America: The First Avenger - July 22
7)Green Lantern - June 17
8)Thor -- May 6
9)Puss In Boots - November 4
10)Cars 2 - June 24
11)Cowboys & Aliens - July 29
12)Caesar: Rise of the Apes - June 24
13))Dolphin Tale - October 7
Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol - December 16

and etc....

Well Pirates 4, Transformers 3, Breaking Dawn and HP7 - Part 2 should easily have the biggest opening weekends of 2011 without any questions. But as far as which will have the biggest I think it's a tie between HP7 and Transformers.

You mean Pirates 4 there :P

I agree Pirates, T3, BD-1 and HP-2 will all be big.

I think it will be between BD-1 and HP-2. The OKish WOM for T3 might hurt its chances for a bigger opening this time. I think it peaked with last movie, would have good but not great opening.

Pirates will also b good but nothing great. If anything it will be leggy but not a great opener again due to OKish WOM of Part 3

Yep I meant Pirates 4

The only problem I see with Breaking Dawn being one of the biggest though is that not alot of fans liked the book and consider it the worst in the series. It should still have the die hard fans rush out, but I think it will deffentially die ALOT quicker than the other three if it turns out being a REALLY awful movie. After reading that ridicoulous plot a couple of months ago I seriously can't see this movie be anything remotely good anyways.

Yes the run is pretty much expected to be pathetic which is a given and there is no scope as in HP to make the movie better. Still the OW would be huge.

I think it will still be the 2nd best OW this year behind HP7.2

Great replies.

But for fun everyone should make their official picks choosing one movie as their 1) prediction and 2) for second place and so on.

That way at the end of the year we can see how everyone did.

The winner will be the champ.

Remember it's only for their opening weekend.

It's hard to predict. Films like HP7 and Transformers may move to Wed.

I think it's pretty much guranteed that HP7 and Transformers will move to Wednesday. In that case Breaking Dawn should have the biggest openning of the year just like NM in 2009.

I don't see why they would, since I feel they both have legitimate shots at the OW, what with 3D and all.

Well the last two HP movies that were released in the summer were moved to Wednesday and so were the last Transformers movies.Warner Bros and Paramount don't care about the OW that much since both movies are going to make a shit load of money anyways.

How about IF a movie does get moved to Wed then it doesn't count and we just move onto the next movie in the list.

Keep them coming!!!

If Tf3 opened on Wed it would have a massive 6-day opening weekend.

June 30-July 4 and and July 5th will act as a mini holiday...

When July 4th is not on a weekend it leads to massive grosses.

So it would instead of making 130 million in 3-days, end up with like 200 million in 6-days and allow to make more before it gets massacred by competition.

Why does everyone think Harry Potter 7 is going to do so much more than the last one did opening weekend? I know it's the last movie, but I still think it only has so many fans who rush opening weekend.

Hangover's a Thursday release which usually makes weekend grosses shitty. Regardless, it would be insane if it did that OW.

All 3D + Friday release predictions:

1. Breaking Dawn: Pt.I - 173m
2. Transformers 3 - 170m (110m/230m 5-day with a Wed.release)
3. HP7 Pt.II - 155m (90m/185m 5-day with a Wed.release)
4. Pirates 4 - 125m
5. KFP 2 - 85m
6. Cars 2 - 85m

But 135m+ OW for a straight-up comedy is crazy, isn't it?
