I mean, that would have been really strong if the gross didn't include mystery movie money, as well as money from last Saturday's sneaks. In reality I bet the Thursday number dipped below 1 Million. Beekeeper opened on a holiday weekend too, so that multiple is almost impossible. This could crack low double digits though.

Looney Tunes did $250,000, so the very best case scenario for that is Ron's Gone Wrong, which did $240,000 on Thursday night, on its way to an opening of 7.3 Million. Other animated movies I looked at that opened with double that on Thursday night didn't even go that high.

Friday will be boosted by Spring breaks, not as much as a typical holiday Sunday, but saturday increases should be small.

I feel like a spy type movie with Fassbender has automatically 0 chance of getting out of single digits opening weekend.

As of yesterday, this March so far is tracking as the worst one (outside of 2021 Covid impacted) since 1995 when Man of the House led the month. That's with 30 years of inflation so adjusted for inflation probably have to go back a LONG time to find anything worse. Just a terrible, terrible first half of the month.

Deadline has Novocaine and Mickey 17 vying for first with around 8 Million each. Black Bag is looking at 6 Million, and Looney Tunes 2.15 Million.

Apparently after the early preview showings, the actual Thursday number for Novocaine was just around $950,000.

Novocaine is another 2025 flop then basically. Tough year.

Novocaine didn’t look that exciting from the trailers, but a sub 10m opening is bad.

Black Bag was always more niche but Soderberg’s name means nothing anymore

Looney Toons would’ve done better if Warner distributed it and marketed it, but a 2D looney toons film in 2025 probably doesn’t crack much more than 50m Domestic even in the best circumstances

Worst Q1 is ages. Snow White is looking bad and even Minecraft so far is looking soft. I am hoping for Sinners and Accountant 2 to start the rebound.

If theatrical the Electric State probably could've been the biggest release in between Captain America and Snow White even with its 15% RT.

That's honestly a very respectable start for a movie like Black Bag. If it performs like other well-reviewed adult fare, it should get to a solid total. If it passes 30 Million, that would be great. Conclave, also from Focus Features, opened with just 6.6 Million.

Agreed that's good for Black Bag coming from Focus and just $1.2M from taking #1. Sodenbergh still has his fans I guess. He really had quite a run with Erin Brockovich, Traffic and Ocean 11 over a 2 year period in 00-01.

Pretty Bad for Mickey considering how long it's been in development and may just barely pass $50M.

CA getting to $200M would be respectable for it. Having no competition certainly helped.

Dog Man is up to $93M. Should be able to get past $100M as long as Snow White doesn't hurt it too much.

Mufasa finally drops out of the top 10 after 13 weeks but still holding well. It's PTA is down only 25% from its PTA 5 weeks ago and hasn't yet dropped under $1000.

And especially bad considering March in recent years has been incredibly stacked. The fact that we are just about flat with 2024 YTD when 2024 had hardly any releases in Q1 is damning and also why I believe 2025 will fall below 2025 in BO $ when all is said and done. Best case is flat or a small sub 3% uptick.

Electric State conundrum: to be the biggest box office bomb ever or just be considered netflix slosh?

Makes me wonder: where is JJ Abrams? This type of 80s/90s Spielbergian nostalgia is his specialty.

I feel Ballerina should have opened during this period. Would have had a big OW for sure.
