I'm extremely disgusted at that big theater count for Cats and Dogs 2 but if it opens over 20m and Salt does well enough in its first weekend and has a sub 45% drop, then we'll have 5 movies gross over 20m next weekend.

I am surprised that TLA is still holding that well with such big drops it might actually not need that many theaters.

Excellent for Salt and I am surprised with Ramona theater count I thought it will be opening in about 2000 theaters only.

Is it foolish to open Cats & Dogs 2 that wide, or does WB really feel they have a hit on their hands? I'm not one to count out a kid's film, but this looks terrible.

I totally agree that C&D2 looks terrible. I think with high theater count and 3D it will cross 20m still that is the best potential I see for it....it could surprise though considering that the family movies have been doing great this summer.

The first C&D looked terrible too and it adjusts to $132m - and G-FORCE last summer looked terrible too...

Usually with films like this, my desire to have it fail is exponentially higher than it actually doing so.

I think you may be on to something. C&D was terrible, my wife took her grandmother, and even granny hated it.

It would be painful and undeserving, but a $30m-35m OW for this wouldn't surprise me. Let's hope it plays out more like the Garfield sequel.

WB is definitely hoping they have a G-Force on their hands. Talking animals as spies, a 3,700 theater count, and, of course, 3D. No doubt about it, they're promoting it as this year's G-Force and it could very well do G-Force numbers (or close to them).

As for hoping it does Garfield 2 numbers -- forget that, I'd like it to do Battle for Terra numbers. These idiotic, pandering kiddie flicks seriously need to stop.

There's pretty much nothing worse than a really bad kids movie and C&D2 looks like an abomination.

I know I'm not the target audience, but I haven't seen a single trailer or spot for Cats & Dogs 2. And I've seen Shrek 4, Toy Story 3D and Despicable Me this summer.

Definitely agree. Even I saw Alpha and Omega previews for Toy Story 3, DM, and Karate Kid. I guess WB has been concentrating much more on Inception's marketing.

And yet, you wouldn't figure that WB haphazardly decided to dump this in so many theaters. Maybe the ads have been running on Nickelodeon on Cartoon network?

Yeah, my niece and nephew live with me and they watch kid-oriented networks all of the time, and I've seen a ton of spots for it. It's strange the trailer wouldn't have been attached to this summer's animated movies though. I saw TOY STORY and that didn't have one either.

Maybe it'll perform like Marmaduke.

I really don't see an opening over $15m for it. Even with 3D.

Hmm, it is the first 3D live action film since April. I really don't see it opening below $20 million...
