Re: Thursday Numbers (& INCEPTION midnights)
The midnights are good, but not great. The whole weekend will probably be defined as good, but not great (if only because of some expectations), in my opinion.
Someone said it played at 1600 locations, which is fairly wide.
The only somewhat (though not best) comparisions would be 300 (2.5m from 656 locations) and Watchmen (4.5m from 1595 locations). Again though, not the best comparison for several reasons.

Re: Thursday Numbers (& INCEPTION midnights)
It's basically on par with what I expected, and it should lead to a $20-22m day. The IM without midnight will be much better than Watchmen's given Inception's appeal to adults and summer helping out the Sunday decline, so I'll say a $55-60m weekend.

Re: Thursday Numbers (& INCEPTION midnights)
IRON MAN 1 did $3.5m BEFORE midnight and ended the weekend with $102m STAR TREK did $4.0m BEFORE midnight and ended the weekend with $79m
So yeah, I think $3m AT midnight are pretty good...

So yeah, I think $3m AT midnight are pretty good... With a smaller fanbase since it's not a franchise flick.

Re: Thursday Numbers (& INCEPTION midnights)
To be honest, Inception wasn't the most midnight-friendly movie. Long, complicated, somber. I am glad I went because it meant seeing it as soon as possible , but still.

The legs on Inception should be stellar. Doesn't need a massive opening.

Re: Thursday Numbers (& INCEPTION midnights)
gargantuan for Inception made nearly as much at midnight as that travesty TSA did all day.

I wouldn't want to go into work with just 4 hours of sleep. But since I didn't have to wake up until 9AM (and didn't have to do any commute), it was all good. Some fan you are...

Re: Thursday Numbers (& INCEPTION midnights)
Are there any good summer (i.e. no school day the next day) midnight comparisons for Inception? Most comparisons seem to be from spring/winter/May or a weekday opening.
Note: I do not consider The Last Airbender a good comparison even though it's also $3m because absolutely toxic WOM from midnight drove people away from seeing it during the normal hours of its opening day.
Also, i cannot find the opening midnight for G.I. Joe, but if it's around the same amount, then I think Inception can be a lot higher than G.I. Joe's $22.2m opening day.

Some rather rough Thurs drops - people standing in line early for Inception midnights perhaps.

Re: Thursday Numbers (& INCEPTION midnights)
I could easily see a 5x OW multiplier for its total gross. Demands to be seen again (at the end of the movie you'll think you got it........you don't). Not sure if I can wait til DVD myself.

awesome, I expect some big increases today, or we could be looking at implosions all around.
