It's SOMEWHAT possible, but the more I think about it the more I consider Taken to have just been a freak of nature. I mean it was a good movie, but it's legs were incredible and deffentially unexpected. It's especially suprising because it leaked online a whole YEAR before hitting theatres. Yeah I just think it was a very rare feat and nothing that will be replicated any time soon, but Edge does have the best chance. Although I think it will end up at around 120 to 130mill more likely.

Since when has that stopped Gibson before ? Some of his most popular movies are R rated and that never stopped them from being big. Also since EOD appeals to a much older audience instead of teens everybody who wants to see this will be able see it no matter what. Edge has no real appeal outside of Mel's loyal fanbase which I am pretty sure are all over the age of 18.

No. Lightning won't strike twice in this case. Also, I'm not convinced this will receive the positive W.O.M. Taken did... Taken was a simple shoot-'em-up, whereas this seems to have a more self-important, goverment-conspiracy angle to it.

Also am I the only one who sees a very similar marketing strategy for Edge just like Warner Bros promo for Gran Torino ? As far as both being led by aging actors trying to be badssas and the fact both are R rated.

Clint Eastwood vs Mel Gibson eh

The marketing strategy has no difference it is the story-plot that is so similar. I think so Taken and Gran Torino were not similar only because of the difference in the actors age. I mean you cannot expect Eastwood to behave like 40-50 year old guy, though he tries his level best but age defies even acting limits. Whereas theme wise all three movies are same old actors playing bad ass both Taken and Darkness movies have relatively younger and similarly popular actors.

3. Characters do not transform to share their love. Eastwood's character was supposed to be a non-caring one which undergoes transformation to care about his neighbors.

Yep, but then you also have to remember that some people were pretty let down that there wasn't more action in Torino or more importantly seeing Eastwood beat the crap out of people which the previews seemed to promise. Atleast with EDGE people know Mel is going to be doing some serious ass kicking. LOL!

Everyone I know pays respect to him for scaring the guys off the lawn and the black guys. That was classic Eastwood.

Eastwood did a great job, what a fitting end to his acting career.

Who was let down by Gran Torino? It was a huge hit and everyone seemed to like it.

Considering its great legs I don't think many were let down by it...

Well most people I know really complain about either the horrible acting in the movie or that there wasn't enough of Clint killing people, but other than that most seemed to still enjoy it. I also really enjoyed the flick, but I honestly could not get enough of angry, growling Clint Eastwood.

Eastwood carried that film....

Really like that scene where he confronts the gangster at the end, the determination in his voice was amazing...

I just found the first review from boston herald for Edge and things are really looking up for this movie so far. Heres a excerpt - ( “Edge of Darkness” while familiar in its paranoid conspiracy elements left me stunned on several levels. It’s bolstered by a couple of breathtaking action scenes, one in particular that has to be seen to be believed, and a growing, inescapable sense of menace. A perfect movie for these troubled times. ) Sounds awesome if you ask me and now I can't wait to see it.

Wow that review really looks really promising. On the other hand if there are only action scenes that are to be seen and not a good plot, people would rather prefer to watch it at home rather than rushing to theaters. But still it has Gibson supporting it so I can see a good opening weekend.

Still to beat Taken would require rather amazing steps. I am still OUT

Well theirs more to that review than it just being a shootem up action flick, but I seriously expect some great reviews to start pouring in soon. Theirs no doubt that it will get better reviews than Taken, but the general audience reactions are more important. I still think it will have more than enough positive WOM to clear 100mill domestic.

It could easily open to around 20 or so million and easily end up near 80-100 million.

I predict atleast 29mill opening weekend just like Torino. I mean if Clint can open a movie to big numbers than Gibson should have no problem either especially since he is a much more popular actor.

I still think Eastwood has more fans and is more popular than Gibson. Also from the current records Eastwood was on a fly with a lot of Award babies coming up and with the banners like Torino being the last of Eastwood's acting career gave the movie a bigger boost. I think so 20-23M is realistic and very achievable at this time but past that is going to be difficult. Also there is a bigger disadvantage for Edge a rock boat called Avatar which probably might steal some of it's audience though I think so Edge will still rule that weekend

Well it's not like BOE got completely raped by Avatar either and besides Avatar is going to be in it's sixth week of release, so I doubt it's going to be that much of a challenge since most would have seen it already. No matter how INCREDIBLE it's legs are people are going to be ready to see something new.
