Re: China Box Office (Titanic has arrived)
Mtime has some data on the number of screens Titanic re-release is on: 1,547 theaters (66 IMAX), and they gave it 15,721 showings on Tuesday. The article also mentioned from early calculation, it made 50m+ yuan on OD, so hold onto that $10m OD thought yet; I have a feeling the $11.4m number is a little too optimistic, and the actual will fall somewhere in between.

OD number from Mtime: 66m yuan, or $10.5m.

More breakdown from the article: around 16,000 showings, 1.527m admissions, second biggest OD ever behind TF3; 10m yuan from midnight, against second biggest ever behind TF3.

TF3 numbers for comparison, please!
EDIT: For all that want to know, TF3's OD was $16m ($15m?).

I don't see this having longer legs because Battleship is due this weekend in most regions and it will take away most of Titanic's IMAX screenings.
Regular theaters also need to schedule Battleship accordingly.

That is huge for Titanic and yeah that $11.4m number would have been great. Regardless $10.5m will be bigger than any of the domestic day.
Also Bluebomb you are forgetting the Apr 12 weekend for which this whole re-release was planned, plus I don't believe 66 IMAX is to full capacity and same has been the case with almost all theaters. It is having a very strong PTA so I don't see theater owners stripping it off its screens till it drops heavily over the PTA

They are going to cut Titanic's showtimes regardless of how well it has done. The re-release anniversary will have NO effect on Battleship taking over IMAX with most of the showtimes.

Actually it is the other way around. Titanic 3D wasn't something that came recently it was planned last year for IMAX screens specially for anniversary weekend, it moved a week early probably because it was converted earlier. Battleship on the other hand is something that moved up recently in OS markets and I am not saying that some screens will not be taken from it but Wrath has been in most of the IMAX screens with Lorax and John Carter, those three will be the most impacted. Titanic I believe for this week will move to a little better shows.

Battleship will take most of the showtimes away; it doesn't matter who has them. Titanic might be able to carve out 1 or 2 shows at the most because of its very long runtime. IMAX theater operators also have to take into consideration that Battleship is more of a night movie which means less chance for Titanic to make money because they'll be scheduling Battleship at night.

Titanic 3D opens twice as big in China as in its home country. Have we seen any other Hollywood movies making more in China than in the US?

Re: China Box Office (Titanic has arrived: $22m in 2 days)
Wow, the report is 68m yuan ($10.8m) for the second day. That'd be an increase from Tuesday w/o midnight! 140m yuan, or $22m, total in 2 days. With that pace, it could be looking at $70m first week.

So the re-release could actually make more in China than the rest of the world combined.

Looks like another $9m on Thursday; $31m in 3 days.

Transformers 3's opening week record of $62.7m is definitely going down, although it's opening weekend and biggest single day look safe (TF3 opened on Thursday comparing to Titanic's Tuesday start).
