I thought it was expensive to see movies in China.

At this rate Titanic re-release will set out a record which would require Avatar 2 to break it.

Dunno how accurate they are: Quote: Titanic 3D daily break down:
Mid 1.6M Tue 10M w/o mid Wed 10.5M (+5%) Thu 9M (-14%) Fri 11M (+22%) Sat 19M (+72%) Sun 19M (0%)
6 days total: 79M, biggest opening week EVER!

Re: China Box Office (Titanic: $80m Opening Week?)
"In China, the film's six-day opening gross is 32 percent ahead of the lifetime earnings of Titanic, which cumed $44 million when released in China in 1998, itself a record for more than a decade".
So all 3 main sourses for foreign box office (Variety, HR and Screendaily) say $58m 6day opening. I guess we will see actual numbers on Tuesday.

Re: China Box Office (Titanic: $80m Opening Week?)
Wouldn't be the first time there are big differences between China sources and what gets reported in western media. No idea how they come about. Are the sources not reliable or is China holding back money? Actuals might be higher but i doubt they will be $20m higher.

This is kinda absurd, too big of a difference and I know that there are always discrepancies but by this much and so consistently?

Re: China Box Office (Titanic: $58m OW reported, but...)
According to this article (dated 4/16 1:45 am ET), official weekly actual numbers have not been released. But projections are everywhere from different sources: An industry insider via Weibo (Chinese Twitter): over US$79.2 mil Trade magazine (?) "Media & Entertainment Industry Reporter" editor via Weibo: US$69.7 million Vice President of a Shanghai cinema chain: US$71.3 mil

Re: China Box Office (Titanic: $58m OW reported, but...)
Various theater chains have reported their own numbers: Shanghai - 44.91m yuan, China South Cinema Line - 39.38m yuan, Guangzhou - 29.7m yuan. Using those numbers to deduct is more accurate than using the online ticket sales figure, and they indicate a number closer to TF3's opening week ($62m) than $80m.

I am thinking Battleship will get some huge numbers in China based off the a big opening for it in South Korea.

Re: China Box Office (Titanic's OW actual: 468m yuan/$74.2m)
LOL at male oriented American movies Wrath of Titans and John Carter for 90%+ drop caused by a movie heavily aimed at women.
Will be interesting to see what Battleship does to holdovers next week. I expect a big opening for that as well.

Battleship isn't off to a good start on Thursday, trailing Titanic by half in the early matinee business.

So, is Titanic a lock for $170+ million?

How much is Titanic making this week? Will it see 50% drop since it opened on Tuesday?

I'm seeing around 30% drop for a $50m week.

That would be great. $170m+ will happen if it holds this well.
