I'm thinking an IM of 2.75 for SHERLOCK and 3.33 for AVATAR...

 Re: Friday Numbers
I'll wait until we have full numbers to comment on everything but...
Can we note that The Blind Side is going to gross like $14M in its sixth weekend? An amount that some people thought it would make opening weekend. Also, it's going to have the highest sixth-weekend gross since 1999. And its numbers will probably stay roughly the same next weekend too. Mind-boggling.

Blind Side has been nothing short of phenomenal. It opened way bigger than expected, had an even bigger second weekend followed by very soft drops and a possible 40% increase in its 6th weekend followed by a weekend where it might stay flat... Sandra Bullock's year has been so good, and I'm happy for her because I just love her to bits.

With MLK weekend, and football playoffs, then the Oscars, I think this could still be playing quite well for some time. I think $250 m still isn't impossible for it...

 Re: Friday Numbers
Good for Sherlock and Guy Ritchie he just has had some bad luck as far as box office is concerned. And it looks like RDJ has another Franchise on his hands with it doing so well.

I think $250 m still isn't impossible for it... Football playoffs would hurt it a bit shouldn't it? You have primetime games on both Saturday and Sunday. People will be too busy watching the games. If Baltimore gets to the playoffs, I could certainly see more and more people be interested in seeing The Blind Side. Not that I see it happening (The New Orleans Saints are going to win the Superbowl btw), but imagine if Baltimore made it to the Superbowl, that would pull even more people to see The Blind Side...

Not that I'm Mark, but it was from Box Office Mojo: With its advanced 3D presentation as a key selling point, Avatar handily set a new 3D opening weekend benchmark. Showing on 3,129 3D screens at 2,038 sites, the format accounted for an estimated $55 million of the gross. The previous highs were Up's $35.4 million and Monsters Vs. Aliens' $32.6 million. IMAX contributed $9.5 million at 178 sites, shatterring the IMAX opening weekend record previously held by Star Trek's $8.5 million at 138 sites. As for the audience breakdown, distributor 20th Century Fox's research indicated that 57 percent was male and 62 percent was aged 25 years and older.

Why does ERC give weekend estimates but not Friday estimates?

Re: Friday Numbers & Early Weekend Estimates
Hmm, we had a disappointing December last year but January made up for it. I wonder if with three very strong flicks from December (maybe even four since It's Complicated is no slouch either) January will be rather tame...

Re: Friday Numbers & Early Weekend Estimates
If the MCN estimates hold (and the official SHERLOCK number from WB is $24.86m) than the biggest, second biggest and fourth biggest Christmas Day grossers are from this year... (only movie sandwiched in between is FOCKERS)

Re: Friday Numbers & Early Weekend Estimates
With those weekend estimates, the top 12 would be at $265.75 m!!! That would be 48% above last year!
