Re: Real Monday Numbers (Top 3)
Another record for AVATAR: biggest non-holiday second Monday (only SHREK 2's Memorial Day Monday was bigger) 7th biggest Monday overall (doesn't matter if 1st or 2nd Monday)

Re: Real Monday Numbers (Top 3)
I can't believe that a thread with fake Monday numbers is getting more responses than the one with real ones...

Re: Real Monday Numbers (Top 3)
Avatar does indeed appear to be what I guessed it might be. A Star Wars type of box office phenomenon. Too many parrallels to ignore.
I'm a huge James Cameron fan, but had no interest in seeing this initially, but I do want to check it out now. I suspect there are many like me, so the legs of this are going to continue on for a good while. Without much blockbuster competition in the coming weeks, nothing is standing in it's way. What's the next "big" movie, the Wolfman in mid February? The Dark Knight should beware, and if this thing continues to roll, maybe even Titanic. Really, it's getting to the point where 500 million is looking like a conservative estimate.

Re: Real Monday Numbers (Top 3)
yeah expect legs to be great from here as well.
Many many many!!! people who thought the film looked stupid are very curious about the film and will likely see it as there is nothing much else to see.

Superb hold for Avatar, very good for Alvin, not bad for Sherlock.

Re: Real Monday Numbers (Top 3)
I'm curious what kind of Oscar bump Avatar will get. It's pretty much locked for a nomination, especially since the academy decided to make their best movie category a free for all instead of an exclusive list.

Insane numbers for Avatar! Looks like it is headed for a 60 mil weekend. The sky is the limit for this movie.

Re: Real Monday Numbers (Top 3)
Wow, I was not expecting such a strong number for Avatar. It dropped a small 14.2% on Sunday, and then only drops 21.5% to retain $19 million on Monday. That number really blows me away. I just wasn't expecting anything that high.
Peace, Mike

It's not an official holiday, but many people are still on holidays. Their off work, the dailies are boosted by everyone being free to roam the country, no actual holiday effect till the first or the 2nd or both

That doesn't look so awesome for Sherlock. Both Avatar/Alvin had a -21% drop from Sunday and it dropped almost -30%.

Re: Real Monday Numbers (Top 3)
its two people have 100 and 50 apples and I now have 70 apples and the other 40 apples.
Who still has more apples, use logic magnus.
Bigger numbers, bigger grosses and still get small drops. That is nothing short of holy Crap!

You conveniently ignore that Holmes was above Avatar on friday. That really has nothing to do with its Monday. Holmes has been on a freefall ever since Friday. Avatar should be holding much better than Holmes and it is. Also note that Alvin actually had a better hold than Avatar. Granted, the fact that Avatar is holding as good as a kids film in the holidays is impressive.dude Avatar is holding like an adults film within the 98 pattern, its the performing at the best an adults film can possibly do. To compare drops to a family film like Shitmunks (family films had sub 10% drops on monday in 98) is the last straw, your BO knowledge needs work, to make such a comparison
