 October 9-11 Predictions

Anyway...

 Re: October 9-11 Predictions
Night of the Demons withdrew from this wknd right?
Still, it shouldn't be that empty with Columbus Day. The path is clear for Couples to crack 20, and holdovers should be really good.

Cloudy sub 20% drop. Zombieland sub 35% drop. Toy Story sub 35% drop. That's it.

 Re: October 9-11 Predictions
Yeah, it's a dead weekend, but it gives holdovers a break.
I saw that coming with Night of the Demons since there hadn't even been a trailer yet.

 Re: October 9-11 Predictions
Couples Retreat has a great big cast... But it looks sooo lame. I could see it coming near 30, or disappointing if audiences are discerning.

 Re: October 9-11 Predictions
God, how depressing. I hope Paranormal Activity or The Boys Are Back opens here, so I'll have a movie to see... As for Couples Retreat, I agree with MovieDude. The cast is strong, but it doesn't seem particularly hilarious or interesting. I'm sure it will do well enough, though. Can't see it opening below 25m.

 Re: October 9-11 Predictions
SUNDAY UPDATE: Paramount said this morning that Paranormal Activity is set for an expanded release into over 40 markets at all hours on October 9th after selling out all its midnight screenings across the country Thursday through Saturday in 33 cities, earning a per screen of $16K for a total estimated gross of $535K. "The fans have spoken, and we are listening," Paramount's Rob Moore was quoted as hyping.

They are said to be going above the 100 theatres now...

So, are most schools out on Columbus Day? Because my niece says they have school that day.

I believe a majority of schools are out but a great many are not including many whole states due in part because it dishonors Native Americans. It is also Canadian Thanksgiving. Come to think of it, Zombieland would be a fitting movie to see on Columbus Day....

Couples Retreat: 28 million Thanks! Same as RS on this. For some reason I still am skeptical that it can go that high, but with PG13, no comp, and a holiday, maybe.

 Re: October 9-11 Predictions
Oh man....Couples Retreat looks so so generic... If it openes to $28 million, though, it has a fair shot at $100 million because of lacking direct competition for a while...

 Re: October 9-11 Predictions
I vaguely remember there has been a horror movie with the same title (Couples' Retreat). Would be interesting if it were actually a horror movie.
A drop of 45-50% will sound reasonable for Zombieland.

Well, judging by early reviews, it is quite horrible.
