 Re: Weekend Estimates
Those are some solid October numbers. Great for the top 3. Last year the equivalent weekend had seven openers, so it was quite great that this year could keep up. Cloudy looks well on its way to $120 m at least. Zombieland could have a solid run as well and show good legs. Toy Story 1/2 opening to $12.5 m is great. Toy Story 3 should be able to have Pixar's best opening weekend fairly easily...

 Re: Weekend Estimates
Just awesome for Zombieland. Great opening.
It's still kinda crazy that Whip It couldn't even gross half of Stick It's opening weekend. Different sport of course, but similar in the extensive female cast and attitude.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs held great. I'd say Toy Story helped it.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
Really amazing for Zombieland. Just a few weeks ago I was thinking 13M might be a good opening for it. Could have decent legs for the genre too.
Really good hold for Meatballs considering the competition (for audiences and 3d screens) from Toy Story, especially after last weekend's amazing hold. Must have some really good WOM.
Very solid debut for Toy Story, this may mean we see more animated films being 3d-ed and re-released.
Decent for Invention of Lying, good increase from Ghost Town. Still decent for Capitalism too, but on the lower end of expectations; still will have a very good gross for a doc.
Whip It bombed, though I'm honestly not too surprised. I'm not really sure what the audience for that really was.

Haven't these been up awhile? Or have they been edited?

Wow. Are these still just midnight showings, or what's the deal here? Either way that's really great.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
Highlights of the weekend: Zombieland, Cloudy, Toy Story, and Paranormal Activity. A very good one overall.
Cloudy should see another sub-25% drop next weekend and could even survive Where the Wild Things Are fine. $130m looks good.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
Would be great if Zombieland made it to $80M Magnus! 1 ZOMBIELAND Sony · 3036 · $25,000,000 · $8,235 · $25,000,000 An amazing start, i didn't expect this. Especially for horror comedy, which, outside of Scary Movie, has had a tough time at the box office. 2 CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS Sony · 2977 · $16,700,000 · $5,610 · $82,392,000 Another nice weekend, even in the face of Toy Story 3D. It'll have a fantastic hold next weekend too. 3 TOY STORY (3D) Walt Disney · 1745 · $12,500,000 · $7,163 · $12,500,000 Great start and shows there is still interest in the story. Disney probably wanted to get a new generation interested and familiar with it before the 3rd installment. 4 THE INVENTION OF LYING Warner Bros. · 2489 · $7,350,000 · $2,953 · $7,350,000 A better start than Ghost Town, ERC has the TC and PTA wrong, it's PTA of over $4,000 is solid. But, it's not going to have a great total. 5 SURROGATES Walt Disney · 2951 · $7,344,000 · $2,489 · $26,387,000 This is not so good. Surrogates cost $80M and has no chance of recouping that after theaters take their cuts. It might not even recoup it before they do worldwide. Flop. 6 WHIP IT · 1720 · $4,850,000 · $2,820 · $4,850,000 Bad start, like someone else said...half of Stick It's opening weekend despite great reviews and a well known cast. Poor Drew Barrymore 7 CAPITOLISM: A LOVE STORY · 962 · $4,850,000 · $5,042 · $5,251,689 Ok start, Michael Moore's appeal is obviously dwindling.. 8 FAME MGM · 3133 · $4,754,000 · $1,517 · $16,634,236 This should have made alot more. Still it only cost $18M and should finish with around $60M worldwide as it's set to make $12-15m alone from the UK after opening at No.1 with 4m. 9 THE INFORMANT Warner Bros. · 2425 · $3,800,000 · $1,567 · $26,580,000 Meh. I'm surprised this made decent money, it looks so damn unappealing to me. 10 LOVE HAPPENS Universal · 1922 · $2,777,290 · $1,445 · $18,910,345 Meh again. I guess it's total will be ok considering the size of release and the budget (18m) 11 TYLER PERRY'S I CAN DO BAD ALL BY MYSELF · 1569 · $2,670,000 · $1,702 · $48,350,000 Nice total for Tyler Perry. Has fallen pretty quickly as usual 12 PANDORUM Overture · 2506 · $1,923,000 · $767 · $7,818,780 Bombs awayyyyyy. Cost $40M and probably won't even cross $20M worldwide. Look for a dvd release in November, hah.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
On top of having only one opener next weekend, its also a holiday weekend. Cloudy could drop under 20% next weekend imo given that hold, perhaps even 15%.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
I feel sorry for Pandorum - it was marketed atrociously. It's a much better movie than it's marketing or box office shows.
Thrilled for Zombieland though. It was billed primarily as an action comedy about wall to wall zombie killing and that made all the difference in the world compared to horror comedies past.
Lest anyone think Capitalism is too much a dissapointment, it will still easily make the top 10 documentaries of all time, and Moore will own 40% of said top 10. Probably not a coincidence though that The Big One is his lowest grosser.

With that number for Capitalism, I no longer think it is a disappointment.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
CAPITALISM didn't do disappointing at all really. I think it's something that a documentary can open this well since a lot of people aren't that fond of documentaries. Moore's movies can pretty much go wide right off the bat now.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
By the way, The Final Destination has now passed Friday the 13th and it is now the biggest horror movie of the year...soon to be surpassed by Zombieland, though.
