By Popular Demand: Star Trek below 150 Million Club
Here's the thing: I really wish this movie to be a success. I like what Abrams has done and I was a big Trek fan back when they were good (up to and including First Contact), but I think expectations are just wildly overblown. I am assuming the tracking is correct and Star Trek will open between 50 and 60. Everything depends on the multiplier. There's no way it'll have a Undiscovered Country IM of 4.0. The best it can hope for is 3.2 (the Insurrection number), so Best Case Scenario would be 192 Million. But this time there are two things to consider. The opening will be more frontloaded than ever. Trekkies are nuts in their own right, but combine it with the Abrams cult following and you have a massive frontloaded movie. Cloverfield had an IM of 2.0 even though it was well received. The last Trek movie Nemesis had an IM of 2.3. So I don't think it is unrealistic to calculate with an IM of 2.5 which would put the movie at under 150 with tracking. This club might not win but it'll be closer than all the other nuts Star Trek clubs when all is said and done

I'm 50/50 at the moment. I'm thinking something around $140-170 million.

In for sure. Trek is the most over predicted movie at KJ. Almost reminiscent of wall-e last year when things got crazy.

AT KJ? Brandon Gray currently has it at 230m! We aren't alone my friend. Thanks for the club levy, I of course don't come close to joining, but it provides interesting counter-debate.

Count me in!
The only point that I disagree with is Cloverfield being well-received. I think it's partially true only to the extent that it was polarizing, so plenty of people liked it (like internet geeks) and plenty hated it, but I don't think a lot of people loved it.
I can absolutely see a sub 2.5 mult.

This movie looks like ass and nothing like what Star Trek is supposed to look like.. It's Star Teek Mini-Babies with Pine trying desperately to do a William Shatner impersonation in the TV Spots and it isn't there.. Nevertheless, the curiosity factor is there and it'll do well from that alone..

In. I want this movie to be awesome, but even if it is, it only has a chance at crossing 150M. Much better chance at < 150M IMHO.

No way. 200 Minimum.
As usual, the only people that are hating on it are the ones that haven't read any reviews or seen any footage. Sorry Mr. Green, you're completely incredibly wrong.

It's my opinion and my view of the TV Spots do in fact make this look like little Kirk and Spock playing in the sandbox and how they got there start sort of thing.. You have to understand that I grew up watching the old Star Trek TV Series and it's just hard to imagine anyone else playing Capt Kirk other than William Shatner.. It's just the way it is..

If this somehow does manage to gross under 150 Million, then Paramount and Abrahms will be on suicide watch for as heavily marketed as thing is..

Re: By Popular Demand: Star Trek below 150 Million Club
Out.
The reviews coming in are pretty good. A radio show that has a daily entertainment reporter call in gave it 4/4 and he isn't even a fan of Star Trek but he just loved it. I think it's turning into a real event film and will blow past this petty under 150 total. That would be distressing if that happened.

Re: By Popular Demand: Star Trek below 150 Million Club
I would have joined this before, but had things to do away from the Internet. I had it at 54m/140m for months.
Even if A&D does a tDVC and T4/NatM2 combo do like 200m+ 4-day, it may still not happen.
