Friday the 13th 12:01 a.m. | 300-seater: 65% full
Trailers:
Miss March Amusement 9 Watchmen
Crowd:
Seemed to like it enough. Clapping in the same three places at last time -- the cut to the "Friday the 13th" title card, Jason finding the hockey mask, and the last scare. Heard a ton of 'it was okay's on the way out.

http://talk.hsx.com/films/post.htm?0213090528.notfabioVia notfabio: Quote: MTC: 332K for FRI13 midnight
By comparison:
CLOVERFIELD(PG13): 419 BLOODY VALENTINE: 124 STRANGERS: 111K
Now keep in mind, because of its franchise history, FRI13 was going to have a sizably bigger pre-open than the other R rated horror films.
But that's still, especially after all these horror films of late, very impressive. I don't see it having any problem going over 35 million for the 4 day no mater how horrifically frontloaded/if there was any impact having the TFRM2 trailer.

Re: Screen Counts/Crowd Reports for February 13-16
I saw Friday The 13th tonight at 7.40 in uk. Sold out audience. Film was awesome, good old fashioned stalk and slash. Great deaths, full of jumps. Jason was a mean bastard! It was actually pretty funny too. Likeable cast and the shots were beautiful, just like TCM 03. Jared was lush, Panabaker and Righetti made great heroines. The audience reacted with screams, squirms and laughs.
Cant wait to see it again.
Trailers: I Love You, Man The International The Unborn Cant remember the rest.
8/10.

Re: Screen Counts/Crowd Reports for February 13-16
Friday the 13th @ 5:30 - SOLD OUT in UltraScreen (about 450 seats, not sure)
Trailers - Transformers 2, Last House on the Left, Adventureland, Observe and Report, Inglourious Bastards, Watchmen, Obsessed (Damn, there were A LOT of trailers!)
Film - Loved it. Delivered everything I want in a slasher film and more.
Grade - A
Confessions of a Shopaholic @ 7:35 - 75% full in 275-seater
Trailers - 17 Again, Hannah Montana: The Movie, Race to Witch Mountain, Land of the Lost
Film - Disappointing. Not nearly as funny as it could have been. Doesn't take advantage of Fisher's innate comic ability enough. She's great, the movie isn't.
Grade: B-

Re: Screen Counts/Crowd Reports for February 13-16
But what? If F13 is doing well in matinees, I could definitely see 20M OD since night shows will do even better.

"Based on matinees, the horror flick is looking to open today in the mid-teens."
She's saying that matinee numbers indicate a mid-teens opening day.

She's saying that matinee numbers indicate a mid-teens opening day. She's not very accurate with early reports, usually underestimating totals.

Very possible. We shall see. I haven't seen any Friday sell-outs locally, but we just had a shitload of snow come through. I can't accurately gauge local attendance tonight.

Best thing: Only one month to go before another horror film hits theatres on Friday the 13th!

Re: Screen Counts/Crowd Reports for February 13-16
Taken 7:30 show, 450-seat theater, sold out.
Trailers Miss March Duplicity 12 Rounds Fast & Furious State of Play
Movie Highly preposterous but efficient and entertaining. Liam Neeson is a total badass, while poor Maggie Grace barely factors and is called upon to play a 17-year old who acts 7 and runs like she's physically impaired. But anyway, there are so many logic problems but the ride is so fun that you won't care. B
The theater was absolutely mobbed. Friday the 13th, Shopaholic, The International, Coraline, The Reader, Slumdog Millionaire, Paul Blart, Gran Torino each had a sellout, in addition to Taken (from what I recall), He's Just Not That Into You had two.

Early Saturday Guesstimates from DHD: Friday the 13th - $14.2M (-26%) He's Just Not That Into You - $9.6M (+91%) Taken - $9.4M (+104%) Coraline - $6.7M (+123%) Confessions of a Shopaholic - $6.4M (+46%) http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/That would be pretty sad for Shopaholic, but inSANE for Taken. InSANE.

Re: Screen Counts/Crowd Reports for February 13-16
As usual there is no precedence for Valentines on Saturday like any other date. What I mean is that we can never compare 2 dates even if they fall on the same day. Last time we did that for December and Christmas, it failed miserably as the predictions that Marley etc would become 200m+ grossers failed due to the movies not following predictions.
Again, here the openers increased pathetically. Friday was expected to fall but Shopaholic and International had lousy increases for a four day Valentine weekend. HJNTIY also did not make 100%.
Sorry for being a wet blanket, but everything will not be continuously rosy.

I actually saw it the day before VD (Friday 13th, heh). I, too, liked it more than my date.
