Re: Release Date Change Thread
Yeah coming out early compared to Solo should not be as big of a problem than coming behind Avengers. Its better for Deadpool to distance itself from IW and Solo is anyways on Memorial weekend so DP2 can still hold well.

But I don't know if there's any real tracking data until 4 weeks out. It's so wrong that there is no movie on the first weekend of May. Wonder if they ever considered Solo to tie in to May the 4th. I'd like to see something move there and start aggressively marketing.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
hehe, Disney wouldn't do that to themselves, ProudRyu. IW will still be making big bucks, that weekend will still be busy enough even with a 70% drop As for Solo tracking, I was just wondering if there was any insider unpublished tracking that studios know beforehand. The later they wait to change the release date, the less it would help, I think. Disney has to get their act together, lol, jk

Re: Release Date Change Thread
I do think it is in Disney's interest to have Fox move Deadpool a week forward. That would be the best solution overall. Though I suspect Fox would rather have Solo in DP's second week than open in IW's 3rd week.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
yeah, I guess it is a toss-up, but wouldn't you think IW's 3rd weekend dampening DP2's opening just a bit be less detrimental for it in the long run than having Solo in its second weekend? This reminds me of the time when Bruce Almighty opened up against Matrix Reloaded's 2nd weekend, though with more frontloading these days, drops could potentially be harsher for DP2 if it stays put, even with the holiday.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
I agree. I think DP2 should move up a week. It will be better for both it and Solo and better for overall box office.
The only other concern with IW is that its a comic book movie and the last time we had two comic book movies open 2 weeks apart, the latter (Justice League) didn't fare well (even thought its likely down to the reviews and quality rather than competition).

They probably have some data from test screenings that provides an initial direction for what to expect, but I haven't heard of anyone doing long term extensive tracking. All the tracking services I think start tracking films 4-6 weeks out. Any sooner and I suppose it would be simply too many movies for one survey, and too unreliable (considering how unreliable they can be even 1 week out). One does wonder though if they are worried about Solo.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
Not a bad move for Overboard considering May 4th is empty - however May now has perhaps too many films targeting (mainly) women in consecutive weeks - Overboard, Breaking In, Life of the Party, Book Club...
Would have been better to spread these out.

Bad Samaritan has also fled its April 27th release date and will now open on May 4, 2018. Avengers: Infinity War is now the only wide release on April 27th.

Would have been better to spread these out. Agreed while they are good counter-programing to IW there is a whole lot of summer left to spread these titles. I think a lot of these titles want to take advantage of Mother's Day but will end up eating into each other's total.

Yeah such a random move. Its getting ridiculous now. I really don't understand who comes up with these kind of scheduling dates/changes.

Damn it!! My draft completely sucks now that both Dark Phoenix and New Mutants move out.

I think the move for New Mutants this time is tied to the move of Dark Phoenix. They don't want two X-men movies to be releasing so close.

That is indeed interesting and surprising since we already saw the trailer so Fox was confident at a certain point in that movie.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
I think the movie is a good one for Phoenix. November was a rough release date with so much competition. It faces very little in February right now, I think it spells more trouble for New Mutants to get moved twice.
