NO, I won't allow it. You must think and decide NOW, before the actuals for TDK are even in! HURRY!

I actually liked transformers. Its no TDK, not by a long shot but it was a fun popcorn flick and Shea was a charming and enjoyable lead.

Transformers 2 = 130 OW. If the running time is under 2 hours and the reviews are really good 145 max.

No. Even if it gets say, a $70 Million OD, it won't be able to sustain itself like The Dark Knight has on Sunday.

What if it gets a $75m Opening Day?

One thing to remember is that Transformers was considered one of the most well liked blockbusters since the original Pirates. Of course, TDK and Iron Man came out and they were liked even more, but the fact still remains that Transformers had phenomenal WOM. But Box, I think assuming this won't open on a Wednesday and that it won't have pre-midnight showings might be asking a little too much. The original was moved from a Friday to a Wednesday to a Tuesday and finally to a Monday night. So I fully expect Dreamworks to open this up midweek with 8 PM showings when all is said and done. But, if this opens on a Friday at midnight, I fully expect this to get a monster opening. So I'm in.

Then a 40% drop in Saturday.

For the sake of my sanity, it better not get a $75 Million OD. :disgust:

Basically, the only way it opens on a Friday is if DreamWorks WANTS the OW record. I mean, it's clear with TDK that WB WANTED to get the record, and did everything it could to get it.

So it's not completely out of the question.

$75m is not impossible. I mean, insanely difficult to achieve, but not impossible.

Pretty much. And so far June doesn't look all that impressive to me.

June (Details)
• The Fast and the Furious 4 (Uni.) - 6/5
• The A-Team (Fox) - 6/12
• Nowhereland (Par.) - 6/12
• Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (BV) - 6/19
• Year One (Sony) - 6/19
• Transformers 2 (P/DW) - 6/26

Iron Man 2 has a shot at the TDK OW Record if it gets everything right.

Spidey 4 I think has to deal with the negatives of 3 and will underperform a bit.

The Next Batman Nolan Film is going to be under immense pressure...if it lives up to TDK it might surpass it.

They are going to have to do something absolutley spectacular.

Spoiler: show
But they saved the new Batcave and rebuilt Wayne Manor for the next one (Good).

And they killed off the love interest (Very Good).

They have to have a villian as engaging and buzzowrthy as Heath Ledger's Joker (tough very tough but not impossible).

They Villians they have that can hold agaisnt Joker are Riddler Penguin Catwoman Mr Freeze.

I can see Riddler as it can continue with the cerebral villiany. Freeze and Penguin no but freeze more than penguin (the problem with freeze is it begns to become more about gadgetry than villiany).

I can also see Catwoman as the Love Interest Secondary Villian but that faces huge issues with the spectacular Pfiefer rendition and the autrocious Barrey version. But Nolan has been able to turn Disaster into Success so they might be able to pull it off.

I don't see the next film being able to go with a lesser known villian because of the Joker.

edit: I do have a concern that all future villians in batman films will try to out do Ledgers performance and will chew scenery and get panned for over hamming.

The problem I see with that is DK's opening would probably adjust to "only" $70 Million in 2009 dollars. I don't see any concievable way TF2 could get that extra $5 Million when it's coming out earlier in the summer, and when DK had $18.5 Million from midnights, 3am-6am shows etc.

The next TDK2 could be the biggest piece of garbage ever, and it would still get the OW record. This is a given. The question would be whether it could beat Titanic, and it would stand a great chance at that.

The marketing will have to be amazing, TDK's was just incredible. But it's possible.

The planets aligned for TDK to make it this juggernaut, I honestly do not see a movie beating TDKs opening day and OW for a while. Plus Tranformers suck because Michael Bay is behind it, if Spielberg was directing then maybe I would say yeah, because then more than likely the quality would be there.

On a side note, I don't think we will have a problem with out actors trying to "out do" Ledger because that is where the director comes in and Nolan is more than competent to tell one actor or another that they are hamming it up.

No, not enough time past from the first to the second.

It would also need those insane midnights ala Dark Knight to have a chance...which it won't get.

This has to be a joke....the first one did 28m OD and it was garbage. The hype for TDK was through the roof. The hype for Transformers 2 barely has a pulse.

Are you joking? The movie is almost a year away. Obviously hype isn't big at this point.

"Rolling out on approximately 7,600 screens at 4,011 theaters, Transformers waged $146.6 million in its first six days, not including $8.8 million from Monday night previews which brings the tally to $155.4 million. That was enough to place DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures' $150 million robo-spectacle seventh among the highest-grossing six-day starts of all time, edging out the first Spider-Man as highest among non-sequels. Additionally, Transformers handily scored two minor records: biggest Tuesday daily gross with its $27.9 million opening day and top July 4th gross with Wednesday's $29.1 million."

Your opinion of the movie is irrelevant.

Yeah, the movie's first 6 days were ridiculous, especially for a non-sequel. The fact that it almost won the year is even more absurd.
